You would have an easier time trying to convince NASA to make you the next astronaut on a mission to Mars than convincing the Italians in Toronto that we should establish a red light district on College Street, or any other street for that matter.
The Italians here are NOT like the Italians in Italy. The Canadian Italians are WAY more conservative.
The great Italian influx to Toronto came in the 1920's and again in the late 40's and 50's.
Perhaps as a result of being isolated from the motherland by an ocean and a sea, and immersed in anglo culture, the Italians here retained their conservative values that their ancestors brought from Italy.
Whereas now, Italy has topless beaches and is more relaxed about sexuality (go to the Dominican Republic, all Italians there, all the chicks walk around topless

. If you see a girl on the beach there wearing a top, she's Canadian, or worse American), the North American Italians are anything but.
I always thought tha the "real" little Italy was Dufferin and St Claire, not College St. Then again, at one time Eglinton and Keele to Eglinton and Dufferin was largely Italian. Now it's Carribean..
