Fresh is a chain of vegetarian restaurants that some of my vegetarian/vegan friends like, but personally, I think it's way overpriced to eat grass.

The Comensal is another option, not much better in my opinion.

When craving a vegetarian meal or out with vegetarian/vegan friends, I usually prefer to hit either a thai, japanese, or indian restaurant. Most have a good selection of vegetarian options that don't taste like grass or carboard.

Pretty flexible on my downtown definition but Bloor to Front x Spadina to Jarvis would be the general area. Prefer, King/Yonge/University area though. Are there any good places in the King West...theatre district?

There aren't many Veg. sit down restaurants in that area, if you are looking for something for a date type atmosphere you'd want to go to someplace like Fressen or Live (a little more casual on Dupont). However if you just want variety of meals then there are plenty listed on the directory some are just little cafe's and food stands though.

I absolutely love Fresh :). I only go about twice a year but it's so worth it. Sweet potato fries with miso gravy is one of my favourites. And they have a vegan juice bar which is also really good.

My vote is Fressen.
Queen west of Spadina.

I'm not a grazer, but I was introduced to Fressen through friends who are. Always a great menu. Stephen, the owner, buys veggies fresh from the market daily.
I've never been disappointed.

There are a number restaurants that offer vegetarian fare on Baldwin Street, a small side street off McCaul Street (roughly 1-2 blocks west of University) between College and Dundas. There is Vegetarian Haven itself, and there are a number of ethnic restaurants (Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Indian) all of whom offer vegetarian courses. I would specifically recommend the tofu goreng (fried tofu) at Mata Hari Grill!
