Using rubbing alcohol on your genitals

Do you use rubbing alcohol or anti-bacterial wet wipes on your genitals for safe hobbying? Is it recommended? I have a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol so should I be using this while hobbying?

I've come across info like this online:
While it's true that there's no _cure_ for herpes once contracted, the herpes virus is an enveloped virus, and is therefore susceptible to deactivation by alcohols. Normal 70-something or 90-something percent isopropyl or ethyl rubbing alcohol should inactivate the virus within about 30 seconds or so.

"Besides drying, the virus is also sensitive to acids, detergents and organic solvents as might be expected for an virus with a lipid envelope."
From: http://pathmicro.med.sc.edu/virol/herpes.htm
If rubbing alcohol can inactivate viruses such as herpes, is it not a good idea to use it before and after a session on your genitals to reduce possible transmission?

If you've done daty, besides standard mouthwash, would it be a good idea also to gargle some hard liquor like vodka? Hard liquor also kills bacteria, right?

I've put rubbing alcohol on my genitals. When it's put on on the glans penis (the head) it burns/hurts for a several seconds, but after that back to normal.

Not recommended to put rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer on your genitals. First it will hurt like a motherfucker. Second burning your skin like that probably weakens your ability to fight off disease.

Third rubbing alcohol is a poor substitute for soap and water. Alcohol attempts to inactivate bacteria or viruses that may be on your skin, but is not effective against everything, and may not be 100% effective. Soap and water works by mechanically removing the contamination from your skin and putting it in the drain pipe where it can't hurt you. Much more effective.

If you do insist on using some kind of anti-viral/anti-bacterial wipe you should look for wipes containing benzalkonium chloride instead. There are a variety on the market, some of the "wet ones" type products are infused with it. BAC is what midwives use to wipe down pregnant women during birth, to reduce the risk of infection. It's safe for use on genital areas, effective against most pathogens, and won't sting the way rubbing alcohol will. A wipe also has a reasonable mechanical action and can physically remove the contamination from your skin.

Still, absolutely nothing beats hitting the shower and grabbing a bar of soap.

The only real case I can think of for these chemical alternatives would be if you visit an SP or MPA that is not set up with adequate shower facilities, because, say you are going after the $80/hh market or something scary like that. In that case a BAC wipe would be much better than nothing, but better still would be to save up a little longer and visit an SP with better facilities.

Don't be such a baby. Go for the Detol. It'll point out all the open sores/pores really quickly and has a lovely lemon scent, sort of.

Interesting. Perhaps I'll stick with the shower and my Wet Ones wet wipes. No need for the rubbing alcohol.

Don't listen to fuji. Using that kind of alcohol on your boys is a fine practice. In fact you can really open up the creases and get right in there with a block of sandpaper or even a cheese grater before you pull out the alcohol.

Use lemon juice, but only to maintain cleaness and sweat out.

Buddy Hacket used to do a standup routine about rubing Aqua Velva on his balls. He said it started to burn in such a way that it made him do a dance and he coulda won a contest.

Fortunately I have not sampled either sensation, but I imagine alchohol on the glans membrane would burn like herpes, although maybe for shorter duration.

The science behind soap applies mostly to bacteria. I'm not sure it's as effective in removing virus and the extra time required to lather, immerse and rinse extends the window of opportunity for virus to penetrate mucous membrane? But I'll defer to trained biologists on this matter.

On the other hand it's also true that alchohol can be an irritant and its regular use for this purpose would likely lead to the consequences outlined by North Pole.

In hospitals, the cleanser for your pre-surgical shower is Triclosan. Perhaps this a good wash to use immediately after wet sexual activities, although it is thought to provoke an immune response in some people - but then you can say that about almost anything.

After hobbying I'll have a shower with regular soap and water first. Afterwards, I will use Dettol around my genital area because it really leaves you feeling Pine Sol clean and fresh. It is originally a product from the UK, but I discovered it travelling abroad and I love it.

Gusto you can't be serious that you used alcohol on your willie. Thats the best way to open yourself up to more disease acquisition. Alcohol works by a few chemical mechanisms to combat bacteria.

One of the ways is by drying (displacing the water ) of bacteria, this will dry out the skin on your glans, resullting in dermatitis which basically ends up as a chapped dick full of micro cuts just waiting for viruses to enter. Another mechanism is by disolving certain protein chains.
Wouldn't the timing of the application of the alcohol determine whether it's good to use or not? If I put it on before a session, it may dry out the skin and make me susceptible. But what if I put on alcohol after the session or after the shower that I always take after a session? This way if mere soap doesn't wash away or kill the bacteria or virus effectively, the alcohol will.

This isn't something I would do every day. Just once or twice per week immediately following a session with an SP.

I'm just trying to think about the safest way to hobby while engaging in bbbj and FS (even though it's protected, you get juices all over your crotch and portions of your shaft).

Rubbing alcohol caused me such irritation that I got a bad yeast infection from it that lasted about a month. Don't use it. Anti-bactreial wipes use a different disinfectant and are a lot less harmful to sensitive tissue!

I spray my cock and balls with Windex before and after sex. I have been doing this for over 30 years and have never had an STD.
