US concerts rip-offs

First time I saw Debbie Gibson in Niagara Falls USA, I paid $500 for the front row seat because I'm a huge fan, but checked ticket price again before concert, I found out place wasn't even full and second row seat only cost $100, still I had a great time.

This time I got an email from Bandsintown that says LA Guns will be in Buffalo.

It says tickets available from Evenbrite and Etix, so I clicked on the Eventbrite link because I have an account, the page has a picture that says "LA Guns Black Diamond VIP 23 24", which I thought was the tour's name. I bought it in a hurry cos it was at work during break time, paid $135 USD ($180 CAD) for a "General admission ticket", which is on the right side of the Evenbrite page. On the weekend, I got an email to remind me of this "event", I read the email carefully and found out this "VIP ticket" is just to meet the band and get something signed, it does not even include admission for the actual concert, which has to be bought through Etix and only cost around $40, and through Etix I found out LA Guns is not even the main act of the event, but "special guests", which means they would probably only pay 30 minutes or 1 hour...while I like the band, I don't like them enough to pay them $180 to sign my CD...so immediately I requested a refund, and ultimately got it back but lost $15 processing fee...

Why the hell would this band sell some scammy "VIP package" when they are not even the main band? I've been to several musical events in Canada, never seen any band selling a "meet and greet" thing separately. I know I should read the fine print, but I have to click on that "Read More" to find out that "A VIP ticket does NOT include admission to the show. Show tickets are sold separately. Please purchase prior to attending the VIP Experience." This is definitely borderline FRAUD.

Anyway, I'm not even gonna see this band now, I'm using the money to see an escort to soothe my nerves, screw Buffalo too.

More and more bands sell meet and greet/VIP packages these days. Whether they are headlining the concert or not. I did 2 VIP packages with Nita Strauss last year. One she was the headliner, the other she was an opening act. They were both in Toronto. Uncle Al has a VIP package for the Ministry this Saturday in Toronto. Some bands use this to bring in more money as they aren't selling as many albums these days. This isn't anything new.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not even aware of this Ministry VIP package, I do see it now on their website, but not on Ticketmaster, as much as I like Uncle Al I don't want pay extra for meet and greet...

This would be my 3rd time seeing the band, saw them a few years ago at Rebel and last year opening for Rob Zombie.

You admit that?
I'm more into 90's rock and only discovered Debbie a few years ago, since then she has become one of my all-time favourite. Her music is truly amazing and I have at least 30 favourite songs.

Really like the new album too.

This will be my second time seeing Ministry. First was in 2018 at the Opera House and there was a snow/ice storm in April.

These kind of pre-iPhone/social media,/auto-tune/overdubbing concerts were the best ! Just you, your friends and the band grooving to the tunes! Nobody with their phones flashing, heads down etc.

Also helps it was The Doobie Brothers! Man oh man, what a voice Michael macDonald!
