The 300 acre 'town' includes a five story embassy, a bank, a school, an underground subway and train station, a mosque, a football stadium, and a helicopter landing zone.

Located in Virginia, the realistic subway station comes complete with subway carriages and the train station has real train carriages.

The subway carriages even carry the same logo as the carriages in Washington DC

There are also bridges and several other structures which can be transformed into different scenarios.

The $96 million is designed to meticulously "replicate complex operational environments and develop solutions".

The U.S. army's Army Asymmetric Warfare Group opened the training centre last month.

The unit was created in 2004 to help combat terrorism and reduce the vulnerabilities of the army to emerging threats.

Colonel John P. Petkosek, the commander of the group said of the new training city :

"This is the place where we can be creative, where we can come up with solutions for problems that we don't even know we have yet,"

"This is where we'll look at solutions for the future--material solutions and non-material solutions…anything from how you're going to operate in a subterranean environment to how you dismount a Humvee to avoid an IED strike.

"The things that we do here at this facility will have a direct and lasting impact on our entire army."

It has taken six years for the site to be developed, including two years of construction.

More like training to suppress the us population when the economy goes bust. Banning guns will be the first step.

The price seems low to me if the facility achieves it objective. I am sure the Potemkin village will be used continuously to train different units from Army, Navy, Marine and USAF SpOps. As well as FBI, ATF and even US city police units.

Their economy already has gone "bust" and showing signs of recovery. If the US economy goes "bust" the rest of the world will also be in real trouble. And there is no way in hell guns would ever be banned in the US not when it is built into their Constitution. And even if they could achieve a ban on guns and stop production of all guns immediately there is enough guns in circulation it would take a hundred years to get them all.

In the UK they sometimes find very old swords hidden in thatched roofs, the swords have been hidden there for hundreds of years. At one time it was against the law for a commoner to own a sword, so they hid the swords in the straw thatch of their houses. Even if it meant death to be found with a sword. If you have ever been to a US gun show you will meet all kinds of pro gun/right to bear arms people that are suspicious of the government. The amount of guns hidden away in arms caches are unimaginable, not just in the USA but around the world.

I don't know if Canada still has such urban warfare training centers but it used to. The U.K. and Russia both certainly do.

The FBI (Hogan's Alley) and Secret Service have their own as well.

Didn't the KGB build some mock American towns to train agents?

It's relatively low, yes.

But eventuallay they'll be repairs and maintenance costs after they shoot it or blow it up (sometimes anti-terrorist activities requires an RPG, etc.)

BTW, U.S. military expenditure is America's social program.

There are a lot of fanatical gun nuts and groups in the U.S. Even Alex Jones will tell you on public airwaves that they must arm for the next revolution. American's are nuts, plain and simple. This stance by them is an admission that their Republic is not a strong democracy.

I heard that a number of US gov't agencies including the National Weather Service are stockpiling hollow point ammo and armoured vehicles. WTF does the weather service need with that much fire power? Just in case the next thunderstorm has a bulletproof vest?

It, unless you have seen black helicopters lately, was ammunition for the various agency police forces to qualify and some idiot in supply (since ordering for everyone together saves money) ordered hollow point rather than wad cutter.

If you have ever worked for the government you can readily believe the truth of this.
