Upcoming Blackberry Model?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my Curve 8310. I was looking into the Javelin, but the upgrade didn't even seem to be worth the $500+ I would have to dish out. The other option Bold, which I thought was an oversized toy (it's feels very flimsy).

Just wondering if anyone knew when the next GSM Blackberry is coming out?

Cheers,
Nef

The next BB model currently in production is the Onyx. It's the size of a curve but with the power of the Bold. It's much more of an upgrade than the Javelin/Curve 8900, IMO, which is a bit of a waste.

A GSM version of the Storm is coming to Rogers any day now. It's the 9500 model that is sold in Europe, not the 9350 that Telus currently has. The specs are quite impressive, with media performance that wll give the iphone a run for its money. I'm not a big fan of the lack-of-keyboard thing, though.

The BB I'm waiting for is the Magnum. It will have both a hardware keyboard and a touch screen, which is a feature I really like on my Treo 750. It's only in development, though, so most likely we won't see it before Q4.

You're not dealing with just a mere cell phone. Blackberries, along with other PDA's, are handheld computers that happen to have a cell phone built in. It's what a lot of people don't get.

But to my understanding you can also use the 9350 on rogers as it is a world phone.

If you manage to get your hands on a Telus Storm, you CAN unlock it and use it on Rogers. The caveat is that while it DOES support North-American GSM bands (ie 2G), it only support european HSPA bands (ie 3G).

Or in simpler terms, the current storm will only work at 2G speeds in North America. This might actually be enough for you if all you do is email and some light surfing.

Personally I would wait for the Onyx... like the 2nd poster said, it will be the same size as the Javelin, but with better hardware and HSPA support in North America.

No I get it very well.

BB users are incapable of walking away from the hustle & bustle and just enjoying a non-connected life for a few hours.

Au Contraire... we can conduct our affairs from the cottage/boat/golf course/ski hill quite nicely. Guilt free!

And they do have an off switch. One just needs the discipline to use it.

Thank you for proving my point.

You cannot go to the cottage / boat / golf course or ski hill and be completely disconnected.

Very few things in life require the immediacy of constant connection...the only thing I can think of is perhaps a serious injury to or death of a family member.

Everything else is just useless jibber jabber that will be there when you get back to the office on Monday morning. If it cannot wait then you seriously need to look for a different job. Nobody should be "ON" @ work 24/7.

I wasn't paying attention, I was looking for my BB Pin. :p

I wouldn't mind the new Onyx ... but I'm scared of the addiction plus I know 30+ people who collect pins to spend most of their time texting and I'd like to have a life.
