Peoria Police Investigating Homicide - Suspect In-Custody
On July 4, 2019, at approximately 1:45 AM, Peoria Police AZ responded to a report of a stabbing at the Circle K located at 6735 W Peoria Ave. Officers arrived on scene and located a male who had been stabbed. The victim, a 17-year-old Glendale resident was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. Officers arrived on the scene and within minutes were able to locate the suspect and took him into custody without incident. The suspect was identified as Michael Adams a 27-year-old male.
Preliminary information shows that the victim was in the store when the suspect came up and stabbed him in the neck area. The suspect then left the store on foot. Officers and fire personnel responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures and paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital. Additional officers arrived on scene and located the suspect nearby. He was taken into custody and the weapon was recovered. At this time, it is unclear why Adams stabbed the victim as there does not appear to be any relation between the two and no known motive.
Adams was transported to the Peoria Police Department where he was processed and interviewed by detectives. Adams will be booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on Murder charges. This is an active investigation and there may be amendments or additions to the listed charges.
According to Chief Art Miller “We are committed to detailed and complete investigations and we will determine why this violent act occurred. On behalf of the men and women of the Peoria Police Department, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.”
Seventeen-year-old Elijah Al-Amin was stabbed and had his throat slit at an Arizona convenience store by a man who told police he felt “unsafe” because the teen was listening to rap music, investigators allege.
Local police responded to reports of a stabbing at a Circle K convenience store and gas station around 1:42 a.m. on July 4 in Preoria, which is near Phoenix, and found Al-Amin with severe wounds. The teen was subsequently rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officers located and arrested Michael Paul Adams, 27, shortly afterwards in the nearby area and a weapon was recovered, said police in a statement. Adams had been released from jail only two days prior, according to the Arizona Department of Corrections. He had been serving time for aggravated assault and charges related to theft.
