Undercover Cops or Crooks?

Just wanted to ask any people who know a thing or two about law enforcement. With regards to police doing surveillance on a person. Whether its following someone for one reason or anther or doing a stake out on a person. Why would they do this?

What type of vehicles are normally used for this type of assignment?, Could cop use new 2003 vehicles (their own personal vehicles) or vans, pick ups?

Youngblood - That's a pretty open ended question - the reasons police might engage in surveillance are innumerable. As far as the type of vehicle used - EVERY make and model are on the table.

I've even heard of officers dressing like "street people"...depends on the location they are checking...so think next time your about to kick or harass that bum in the gutter...he might be LE...

LE did exactly this a few years back I remember. After a couple of street guys living in bus shelters got robbed believe it or not. They set an undercover up in a bus shelter looking like he was sleeping there. The sting was that he had a $10. bill sticking out of his shirt pocket and was 'fast asleep'. I think they ended up catching a few would be 'robbers'. I wish I could have seen it. Can you imagine the look on someone's face? Said person thinks the old bum is homeless guy is sleeping and there in full view is this tempting $10. bill. He/she reaches over to grab it with out waking the guy. All of a sudden he wakes up and says "Your under arrest!" I would be LMAO for sure.

Do a license plate # check, if you know the plate #. If it "bounces back" (meaning not registered) then its a good chance its LE... Then again the crook could have an unregistered plate. But undercover police car plates tend to show up "unregistered" when checked at the registry...
