Originally, I thought I wanted a tablet (iPad) but I think I now want an ultrabook now. I'm looking for something inexpensive. I'll be mostly surfing, watching movies, word processing (and other Office applications), no gaming (maybe just online poker). Any recommendations? Thanks.

Inexpensive? Sorry not a macbook air...
Asus has some ultrabooks starting at about $800 for the entry level models(13") - Asus has excellent build quality, etc...Macbook Airs start at $1G(11")

I second for the Macbook Air- it is just that well built. but, if you are looking for something inexpensive, Asus is great- but many are not true ultrabooks yet.

For the applications that you require, the OS doesn't really matter, so a sleek one that is well priced in the US is the Samsung Chromebook with the same video capabilities as the macbook air. under $600 with 3g!

You can get previously year's model discounted at Apple's online store. And they're still a better buy than most PC ultrabooks.

Exactly. Ultrabooks are a premium computing product (currently). If OP can't afford a Macbook Air. I'd recommend waiting for the Windows 8 RT tablets due out soon.
