TV indoor antenna

Any good experience with indoor TV Antenna as a replacement for cable?
I am thinking how reduce time I waste watching TV , but still like to have a few of channeles for rainy days...:rolleyes:

It will not be as good as cable in terms of reception. Having said that:

Or just check at Radio Shack. Amplified antennas work to a point, but some channels need amplification, others don't. You'll end up plugging in the amp and unplugging it as circumstances dictate.

Depending on where you live, you'll get the following channels:

CBC
CTV
PBS
FOX
CBC French
Global
WB
CITY

I counted 17 channels that I get using an antenna, about 7 are very clear the rest are viewable. I am in the toronto area.

Still I'm looking for a better antenna to see if I can get more channels :D

Terk is a decent VHF antenna but requires a second on, in most cases, for UHF. They are easy to install and will operate over your cable plant in the house. If you plan in having 3 or more TVs on it you should consider using an amplifier.

Because I'm travelling a lot I decided not to shell out for cable......
I usually download most of the shows that I watch.....


Got an antenna for the rest of the time (watching news or just channel surfing)....


CTV and CBC are my most clear channels....In fact some of my friends thought I had cable again when the CTV is on....


City TV, Global, CFMT, PBS, TVO, CBC French and SunTV come on pretty good....


Fox, (and two other American channels - WB is one I think), CHCH and two Christian channel (CTS)......


The antenna is a Philips and my buddy picked it up for me from Canadian Tire for around 20 dollars....

Another antenna user logs in: ABC, NBC, CBS out of Buffalo (detectable but hardly what you'd wanna watch) CBC, CTV, TVO, PBS, Radio-Canada, CHCH, WNLO23 and WB29 (both Buffalo) Global, Omni, SunTV, City and 69 (Asian) are all eminently watchable on a GE™ dipole I got from Active Surplus for ten bucks and strapped to my chimmney.

Few years back I did the same, to reduce time spent watching tv and also to save money. Net result, more or less watch the same amount of tv.

Your t.v. spending time will go down at first but then it will be the same, unless you make a conscious decision to stop watching. Some of the Canadian stations: City, Omni 1 and 2, CTV, and Global all air a lot of US shows as well so you will not miss a lot of shows than you watch now.

Get an amplified Antenna. Unless you live in a valley then get an outdoor antenna and put it on your roof.

The $100 HDTV antenna I got from Terk was worth the money. I'm in an apt, and I needed the amplification as well as the surface reflection abilities of this antenna. As long as I point it at the window, I can get just about every local station in my area.

I cut my cable off because I am never home but going to get an antenna tomorrow and I do live in a building so not sure what kind to get. anyone?:)
