Tulum, Q.R. — The Tulum International Airport received its first Canadian flight Friday with the landing of Air Canada. The Canadian airline made its inaugural landing at the Mexican airport around 2:30 p.m. Tulum time from Toronto.

Governor Mara Lezama was at the airport for the Air Canada landing. She says the first landing is a significant event for tourism and the economy of Quintana Roo as she lead the ceremony for the inaugural flight.

This new direct service marks an important milestone in the state’s international connectivity and reinforces Quintana Roo’s commitment to international tourism, she said.

“This connectivity will allow visitors to enjoy rural populations, learn about our cultural, historical, gastronomic and artisan wealth and represents a new alternative to experience, to live the New Era of the Mexican Caribbean,” she added in a statement Friday.

Mara Lezama explained that the opening of this route is the result of collaboration between the government, Air Canada and local communities who together, work to make Quintana Roo an increasingly accessible and attractive destination on a global level.

“We invite all travelers from Toronto and Canada to discover Tulum and the many treasures our state has to offer,” Lezama said Friday from the airport.

Air Canada representatives in Mexico, Luis Noriega the General Director for Latin America and Gunther Leudesdorf, the General Director for Mexico, were also at the Tulum airport for the Air Canada landing.

Air Canada offers direct flights to Tulum from Toronto on Fridays and Sundays, and as of May 4, direct from Montreal on Saturdays. Air Canada operates the routes with an Airbus 320 with capacity for 168 passengers and two classes of service.

Canada’s Westjet offering new direct flights into Tulum International

Tulum, Q.R. — Canadian airline Westjet has announced new direct routes, two of which are into Tulum International. The airline says their new direct Calgary and Toronto flights will begin November 9 and run until April.

Westjet will offer the non-stop flights once a week from Calgary and three times a week from Toronto for the five-month period.

“The WestJet Group further solidifies its position as Canada’s leisure champion with expanded 737 service to sun destinations,” the company wrote in a press release.

The WestJet Group announced further network expansion with the addition of new service to Tulum, Mexico, bolstering the Group’s extensive leisure portfolio this winter.

“Our strategy to establish the WestJet Group as Canada’s western leader and national leisure champion is working, as we continue to offer the most robust and affordable coast-to-coast schedule, fine-tuned to meet the needs of Canadian travellers,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer.

“Cementing our position as the country’s leading leisure airline, the WestJet Group will provide more seat capacity than any other airline to sun destinations this winter.”

The airline’s new flights for the 2024/2025 travel season also include Grenada and Fort Lauderdale, FL., from Vancouver and Winnipeg and new routes to Mexico Pacific from Kelowna and Winnipeg.

The introduction of service to Tulum’s newly opened international airport from Calgary and Toronto further solidifies WestJet’s position as Canada’s top choice for Riviera Maya travel.

In addition to the strongest schedule, WestJet Vacations will offer packages to 35 major hotels in close proximity to the Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum Felipe Carillo (TQO), they reported.

The Calgary-Tulum flight will be offered once a week starting November 9, 2024. The Toronto-Tulum flight will be offered three times a week, also starting November 9, 2024. Both flights will run until April 27, 2025.
