I think it will be fine on the Sheppard and SRT lines as the trains are shorter and there are less people to try and watch for.

The real news story will be when they go driverless.

If you're a driver (bus, truck, subway), your days are numbered.

I can see lines 3 and 4 but not 1 and 2. With one operator trains the response time to investigate emergency alarms will be much longer and will cause significant longer delays. Good luck Andy Byford, only a matter of time before your out of a job also.

Great article OP. When I visited Paris I loved the metro system, Montreal is pretty good as well. I'm glad things are changing in the transit system, about time huh?

I'd always assume the newer subway trains (where you can walk unimpeded from one end to the other) already had one operator. I t thought the driver was using the cameras to see if the door ways are clear before closing them.

Sure one operator can do the job but like I said if shit goes down ie. emergency alarms, evacuation, etc
...problems and delays will occur. It's not like there is staff on platforms.

AFAIK trains continue to the next station and call ahead when there's an emergency so that the EMS can meet them there.
