The Tsarnaev family, including the suspected terrorists and their parents, benefited from more than $100,000 in taxpayer-funded assistance — a bonanza ranging from cash and food stamps to Section 8 housing from 2002 to 2012, the Herald has learned.

“The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning,” said a person with knowledge of documents handed over to a legislative committee today.

The state has handed over more than 500 documents to the 11-member House Post Audit and Oversight Committee, which today met for the first time and plans to call in officials from the Department of Transitional Assistance to testify.

“I can assure members of the public that this committee will actively review every single piece of information we can find because clearly the public has a substantial right to know what benefits, if any, this family or individuals accused of some horrific crimes were receiving,” said state Rep. David Linsky (D-Natick), the committee’s chairman.

Linsky’s committee has requested documents from the DTA, the state’s Medicaid director and Health and Human Services Secretary John Polanowicz. But so far the committee has not released the records publicly, citing a privilege the DTA is asserting under state law.

Wow.

I dunno why I'm shocked, but I'm shocked.

Maybe it's a case of biting the hand that feeds you, or maybe it's a case of, "I don't get how you can be so pissed off with a country that has given you so much". Or maybe it's because I've never received a dime from the government (ok, some health care along the way, but that's been about it.)

In either case, it goes to show you that no matter what you do for a terrorist, he's still going to be a terrorist. (Sort of that old scorpion fable I guess.)

I think it's more of a case of "let's milk the stupid fucktard 'mericuns for as much as we can because they are stupid fucktard 'mericuns, then let's blow them up because they are stupid fucktard 'mericuns".

I don't mean to be anti-American, nor do I want to downplay the loss of innocent life... but America get's what it deserves. It made it's own bed.

(Ya ya ya... there would not be a free world if America didn't exist... blah blah blah...)

Stories like this are misleading.

100K of government aid over a ten year period to a group of people "including" the sons and their parents. If these four are the only ones "included" that still amounts to only $5000 a year in assistance per person...far less if more people are "included". That's far less than many native-born Americans get on welfare and they don't need to learn the local language and culture.

It's also wrong to assume that the entire family is evil just because we have heard allegations that the sons were involved in the bombing.

Throughout this tragedy, the public has been only too happy to jump to conclusions based on little or no information and the media has been please to join in the game. Perhaps it's time we learned from these errors and waited for the whole story before jumping to more conclusions.

Yes , its not uncommon for this to happen.in the West . In Germany 80% of the Turks are on welfare. For the bombing part , many country have been bombed by Islamist, Saudis, India, Indonesia and in Pakistan and Iraq they bomb each other on a weekly basis.

80% of Turkish Muslim Settlers in Germany Live off Welfare

Turks came to Germany as ‘guest workers’. They were supposed to provide some “necessary cheap labor” and then leave. But it didn’t work out that way.

And the topic has obvious implications for our own Gang of 8′s guest worker plan, which is going to lead to non-workers bankrupting the social welfare system even further.

Three million Turks live already in Germany already, while 2.5 million of them have German nationality, and the majority of them are conservative Muslims.

Very few Turks in Germany have a regular job; about 20%. The other 80% live on the so-called Hartz IV (state social benefits). 70% of their children have no GCSE; they left school before they finished their basic education.

According to the German state benefit system, every adult citizen who possesses the German nationality, unemployed and cannot find an appropriate job, is entitled to get monthly 482 € ($627). Additionally, parents get for each child under 18 years old, 200 € ($261), plus all their monthly expenditures in terms of rent, heating, power, health insurance, and public transport.

“Amazingly enough some Turks who live on the generous state benefits can afford to buy a house or an apartment and drive luxurious cars like Mercedes or BMW.” Says Klaus, a landlord whose tenants are a case in point.

That part is easy enough. Just like in the United States, you cash in by having a lot of kids. Bring over a whole bunch of family members, churn out some kids from polygamous marriages (the next frontier in marriage equality) and soon you’re bringing in 10 grand a month)

Kamal (46 years old) and his wife Shadia (42 years old) have ten children under 18 and live on Hartz IV (the German social benefit system). They have a monthly net income of about 3000 €. In addition, all their spending on rent, health care, transport, heating, etc. are paid by the state.

Kamal never worked or had a regular job, never finished school, and never learned a profession. Now he claims that he is “ill.” Klaus, the landlord of Kamal says, “The man is fit.” He even confessed to Klaus that he lies when he says he is ill. “He told me once, ‘Why should I work if I can live well without/’” Klaus quotes Kamal.

When I first read about their background I was under the impression that
the family lived a middle-class lifestyle. If I remember correctly the elder brother
was driving some fancy car. As refugees they did a lot of traveling back to their
home country. Wonder if the U.S. goverment is just too willing to be suckered.

Did I not read somewhere that the fundamentalists are encouraged to be aburden on the western system any way they can. Which would include use of the welfare system, making demands for change to accommodate their culture nd of course in the extreme to follow jihad. Sharia law requires them to set up roots in new lands and push for Islamic rules and law. That tsarneav mother is a nutcase.

I guess the same could be said for the million(give or take a few hundred thousand) Muslims who have died since 9/11

"Catering to" is a completely different concept than "actively invading sovereign nations for no legitimate reason".

Although I can't find it we did have a thread, or a least a series of posts about this.

Quite true. Some bad apples will remain bad apples no matter what you do for them.

Love your maths!

Do you, per chance, work for the government?

$100,000 is a low estimate, it is most likely more than double that, since housing alone would have been more than $100,000. Further this is just aid provided by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, it does not include aid from strictly federal programs.
