Rolando Negrin was Miami International Airport's guinea pig during an employee training session on full body scanning equipment last year. The machines have the unintended side effect of giving a rough determination of the size of things underneath your clothes. Apparently Negrin didn't measure up (hey, maybe he's a grower, not a shower) and his co-workers teased him about his apparent short comings.

Negrin's rage brewed for about a year, and on Tuesday night he snapped. He allegedly had a confrontation with a co-worker in an employee parking lot that night and proceeded to beat him with a baton. He told police that "he could not take the jokes any more and lost his mind."

Negrin was waiting for the victim in the parking lot after work, and wanted to talk to him about matters of "respect" in the victims car. He wouldn't let Negrin in. That's when Negrin took a baton (interesting choice of phallic weapon) and begun to hit him on the back and arms.

Negrin then demanded the witness kneel down and say "I'm sorry." The victim complied and then sped off in his vehicle. Negrin was arrested the next day, and the victim plans to press charges.

A TSA spokesman tells The Herald that Negrin has been suspended and an investigation is on-going.

Miami International Airport was one of the early adapters of the controversial full body scanning machines that leave very little the imagination. They use millimeter wave scanning technology to map out a rough image of person's naked body to determine if someone is carrying contraband in lieu of a strip search.

Originally the machines were meant to be used only on suspect passengers, but the TSA has begun to use them routinely on regular travelers as well.

I wonder what would have happened if the guy took a psychological harassment case to the police instead of making things physical. You know, aside from getting laughed at and teased by the police as well.

And now, thanks to his flipping out, whenever you Google his name in the future, you will find a hundred stories that reference his small penis. That should be great for his dating life.

Teasing a man about the size of his dick, revealed in a test or simulation of the usage of scanning equipment, is not only disrespectful, it's sexual harrassment. The "beating victim" needs to be fired or at the very least suspended until he undertakes some kind of sensitivity training.

I agree that he should not have made it physical and should have started a harassment complaint against the offending co worker. However, I can totally understand how he might have gone crazy after being harassed for an entire YEAR about his small penis. Are these people adults, or school yard children?

I will be interested to see how it plays out. Perhaps there's an insanity defense, or a mitigating circumstances defense available to him? The "victim" in this case should also be reprimanded, but after having being beaten, it is doubtful that such a thing will occur.

And this certainly does nothing to instill the public's confidence in the equipment or the people operating them.

If they do this amongst themselves, how will they treat passengers?

As with women who tend to be afraid to report cases of abuse or harassment, I could see his concern about coming forward with a complaint since the subject of the harassment would just be made even MORE public. He may have though those that he'd file a complaint with, wouldn't be any better than his co-workers.....

Everyone involved does need sensitivity training......

I agree, tboy. It is difficult to report sexual harassment for a woman, I would think that it would be much more difficult for a man. How would he have been perceived if he had made such a complaint? He would probably get labelled a whiny bitch, and teased even more. "He's one step away from being a woman, no dick, and he complains!", or something to that effect.

Terrible situation to be put in. I don't advocate physical violence at all, but I can totally see how this guy would have lost it.

How many of you guys think his retaliation was justified?

I think it was justified but slightly overboard.......the second he used a weapon he crossed the line.

I would have pulled him aside one day and said "I may have a little dick, but if you keep bugging me about it YOU'LL be walking around with NO dick" and then pull out my 14" tin snips and go "snip snip snip" "ever seen the movie "The valachi papers"????

All kidding aside I thought these new body scanners wouldn't reveal anything like that?

Oh wait. The government lied to us?! I'm shocked.

This is just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended) and we can expect to hear more and more cases of harassment by airport security. I'm lucky I haven't been asked to go through one yet, because I never beep when I walk through the normal one. It'll be interesting to see how they react when I refuse, and insist on a pat-down instead.

Incidentally, have the scanners actually stopped anyone from sneaking a weapon onto a plane? Have they had any success with these ridiculous devices, or is it just another expensive ruse to somehow make us feel safer? You know, they can't scan anyone under 18 because of child pornography laws, and I'm willing to bet that 17-year-old smugglers & hijackers will soon become the norm... so how are these things actually improving airline security?

What a joke.

Listen, we KNOW already that you are against these things because of your "position" (for lack of a better word). How could you tell if they were successful or not if they never catch anyone? Thing is: like insurance it is worthless until you need it. Same as a cop: most hate them until they're being robbed at gunpoint then it's HELP POLICE!!!!!!

Once again, if you don't want to go through security? The answer is simple: DON'T FLY. End of Story.
