Maybe, but honestly, it’s Trump being Trump. Back in 2016, he floated the idea of firing an anonymous cruise missile into Mexico to punish the cartels. The people around him, loud and hungry for power, and marginally smarter, probably talked him down from that catastrophe. Hitting Mexico or Panama would’ve been a diplomatic and political disaster, so whoever’s running the playbook likely figured striking drug targets in Venezuela would generate the least immediate backlash while letting Trump claim he’d “done something.” Classic: a madman's grandiose fantasy, someone else cleans up the mess. Why not stop the boat and do an investigation to prove exactly what is in the blue containers instead of blowing them up? What if it were drugs, but the folks on the boat were forced to do it.
