Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
What’s painful is, Trump has a real shot of being a decent President. He identified, and talked about the “swamp” that is Washington…. Took issue with politicians being bought off by lobbyists, and saw the problems with China as a trade partner….

Then he played the loyalty game… became easy to buy off… and became the swamp. His trade war with China seemed aimless, and his family still did business with them.

Don’t get me wrong…. This was not surprising… and was quite predictable. But he did have a chance…

I completely disagree. He has no core beliefs other than the pursuant and maintenance of power and personal gain. He has done a 180 on almost every issue depending on his perception as to where the votes are. He is the swamp monster. I encourage everyone to look at his actions and not his words which are complelty different.

I agree with your assessment but deep down, Trump has been more of a Democrat than a Republican prior to Obama becoming President. He chose to be a Republican leader knowing full well they will eat up any bullshit he spews out. They took him in when lard ass went after Obama asking for his birth certificate. He's a liar and under the Dem banner, it wouldn't fly as easily. Now the Repugs are stuck with him and his ilk and can't throw them out with the bathwater.

He has never been a republican and now the GOP is no longer traditionally republican or conservative. It has become the party which stands for the principale that whever we say is conservative and if we say it or are for it it is then conservative regardless of the policy. Hence anyone who criticizes the chosen one is a RINO and Liz Chney who is among the most truly conservative now former members is a RINO. Crazy. A truly conservative GOP no longer exists.

He never had any shot at being a decent President, because none of those things were things he believed in, which he made obvious on the campaign trail.
His complaint about the swamp was that people he didn't like or disagreed with him had power and influence there.
His issue with politicians being bought off by lobbyists was that other people than him and his friends might be buying people off.
He had no problems with China as a trade partner, he just didn't like deals that he thought didn't favor him.
Etc.

Could someone clever enough have aimed his narcissism and greed in a way that resulted in good decisions for terrible reasons? Maybe, but I doubt it.

No. He was a "Democrat" because he lived in New York City and that's who had power there so that's who you funded.

From the very beginning of his political career, he never considered running as a Democrat.
He talked about running as a Republican to succeed Reagan. (He switched parties from Democrat to Republican in advance of that so he could lay the ground work for his run, which he eventually bailed out from.)

He tried getting the Reform Party endorsement in for President in 2000 after quitting the Republican party and switching to Reform.

Reform cratered after 2000 so he switched back to Democrat.
He switched back to Republican in 2009 after Obama got elected.
He talked about running in 2012 against Obama as a Republican.

He never once considered running as a Democrat, it was just his default registration in New York.

He only ran as a repsublican becasue in 2016 Hillary was perceived to have a lock on the nomination. If she was not running he likely would have run as a a Dem.

That's nonsense since he has been a Republican since 2009 and specifically wanted to run against Obama in 2012.
Plus his history of running before.
There is no reason he would have run as a Dem, he's never once considered it any time he's run.

Your argument that he was so scared of Hilary he wouldn't dare run against her makes no sense given he ran against her in the general.
Remember, he thought that was rigged too, so why would he worry that he thought she had a lock on the primary when he thought she had rigged the general?

He had said in an interview, that has since been deleted, he would run as a Republican because "they have the dumbest bunch of voters".

The video was real. I watched it. More than once. No, it was not a people magazine interview. The source was never identified, and it was fairly low quality. Empty room on a chair. Light from a window next to him was terrible. It was on Reddit, then vanished.

And in fairness... he treated them, and the Office like they were idiots. Establishment Repugs first chastised, then had to kiss his ass.

The GOP were really thrown off the first year. McCain hated him. Ryan would originally not endorse him. Lying Ted was force to endorse him by end of it.

They wanted the massive Koch network donor tax cuts... which Donny would also benefit. So I think that was the linchpin holding it together in the beginning. And of course, Trump likely used that to force everyone to kiss the ring, or he won't sign.

He is an opportunist who is very good at spotting weakness. If you look at positions he had taken before announcing he was certainly not a republican. I think he would have run for any party in which he saw a lane. It may well be that he ultimately ran for the GOP because he saw that it was populated by what he saw as idiots who would buy his fictional persona.

Not saying every Liberal is smart…. But smart Liberals in the big cities were not going to get fooled. They have been trained not to react with emotion, but to use data. That is a specific skill set. It’s why the right wing media is so effective at using stories and narratives to get its audience up in arms. Data and facts be dammed! A gay did something to a child!

That has all the signs of a bullshit fake, then.
Sorry.

Given this was a well known meme that was countered, every news site in the world would have been ecstatic to publish that video.
If it made it to the internet, on reddit no less, there is no way it could be disappeared.

I will trust you that you saw it, but I have no reason to think it isn't fake as long as you can't produce it.

When was this supposed to be from, btw?
Why would he say that in an interview?

And in fairness... he treated them, and the Office like they were idiots.
Now, that all said, a private conversation where he said they were the dumbest bunch of voters is entirely possible, because he completely thinks everyone he can sucker is a fucking idiot.
It is obvious he thinks his voters are dumb, other people's voters are dumb, and everyone who isn't actively screwing people over to get advantage are dumb.

Establishment Repugs first chastised, then had to kiss his ass.

Right. Trump had shit he wanted, and it lined up with the Republican agenda.
Which is why he was a Republican.

There was nothing he wanted that was a Democratic goal, really. (Out of Afghanistan and Iraq, even if for different reasons - but that wasn't something he was ever going to fight for.)

Once in power, he governed as a bog-standard Republican in almost everything that didn't involve his direct ego or enrichment.

I do think he would have run anywhere he thought there was a lane, because he doesn't care about the party, only Trump.
But there was no lane as a Democrat, because he doesn't have values that line up with most Democrats, even with their much more loose coalition.

He could have run as a ConservaDem, but their heyday was back in the 90s and already slipping away.
Having gone all in to being Republican post Obama, he never had a shot as a Dem after that. Not on a national level.

Is there a chance in 2002/2003 he might have been able to run as some kind of right wing Dem against Bush?
Maybe, but I doubt it.

What positions he had taken before announcing do you think were not Republican?

It was real. 100%. Saw it before he actually ran in 2015.

The meme was because of the video. Cohen likely had it scrubbed at the source. They then made the assertion that it was a fake people magazine interview, which was demonstrably disprovable.

SMH..You keep on going down that road. Once something is on the net it never goes away. Especially something as incendiary as what you are alleging. Let it go. It never happened.

Get Trump for the actual stupid stuff he has said. There's lots of it out there.
