Why would the US wanna buy Russian oil? Russia would rather sell to India and China. Russia does sell certain oil products to the USA even today. Primarily VGO and Mazut to enhance diesel and jet fuel yield. I am sure they would like to continue purchasing VGO, but I do not see that displacing Canadian heavy oil. I suppose its possible the US is trying to put economic pressure on Canada to capitulate and join the union, but Canada has many tools it can use to retaliate and I think the economic chaos would be a lot for the USA to bear as well. Already just the reduced travel and boycotts by Canadians are starting to pinch.
