US wasted billions in Afghanistan while China developed infrastructure – and now New York has bumpy roads, jokes Pakistani PM
Published time: 27 Sep, 2019 11:34

Pakistan’s prime minister served up some bitter truths during an interview with MSNBC, noting that US taxpayer dollars would have been better spent on fixing America’s infrastructure, as opposed to squandering them in Afghanistan.
Asked what advice he had given US President Donald Trump on the seemingly endless war in Afghanistan, Imran Khan told the co-hosts of Morning Joe that the conflict would go on for “another 19 years” if the United States doesn’t push for peace.

“If I was an American I would ask – at least $1.5 trillion has been spent in Afghanistan, what have we achieved in this?” he said, adding that his visit to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly made it clear to him that the money spent to prop up Kabul should have remained at home.

While the US was pouring money into Afghanistan, in this futile war, the Chinese were developing first-world infrastructure… and I’m in New York, and I’m watching [my] car bumping around.

New York is always under construction, part of being the most dynamic city in the world. If he wants bumpy roads he’ll get those when he flys back to his terrorist infested shithole.

We should just leave Afghanistan.

We are trying to bring a liberal modern world to fundamentalist cave men, it’s a waste of blood and treasure. Leave a couple air bases where we can refuel and rearm drones and call it a day.

You can't leave Afghanistan. That's where a large portion of the CIA heroin run money comes from. Without it. The Banks would likely collapse from lack of liquidity. And ya, New York is a dump. It was a dump in the 70's when it declared Bankruptcy. And then it got cleaned up. And in the last ten years it's gone back to being a dump again.

The infrastructure in USA has been neglected for many decades and is crumbling compared to Europe and yes China. That is a fact that American exceptionalism cannot talk itself out of.

And, yes it must be embarrassing for Americans to be told this by a leader of a 3rd world country. LOL.

He wasn't exaggerating.
I used to travel to Pakistan over a decade ago and even back then, the infrastructure I observed in cities such as Islamabad, Karachi and LaHore was amazing. Funded and engineered by China, the quality of highways etc etc was by far better than what I observed in many U.S. cities. May be Americans should re-think about wasting big money on wars at the expense of domestic development and welfare.

Khan should focus on his own problems in Pakistan, including avoiding war with India.

That is a reasonable principle. So USA should focus on its own problems, no?
