Sadly, Shasta Groene never recovered from the trauma. She became addicted to drugs and was arrest multiple times for it, along with endangering her children.

Shasta Groene violates probation in injury to child case
A young Idaho woman who survived heinous crimes as a child has recently been in trouble with the law for exposing two young children to danger.

Girl was SO smart. She did so many things to survive.
At 8 years old she:
-asked questions about him to build a connection
-when asked whether she wanted to be strangled or shot to death by him, she chose strangulation because she thought there would be a better chance to survive
-called him by his nickname, knowing this was his weakness, and he changed his mind. This was just seconds before dying.
It's too bad that her life didn't end up well.
Gotta love the waitress who recognized Shasta at the restauarnt and had her boss call 911.
