HIROSHIMA, Japan - Canada has announced new sanctions against Russia as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attends the G7 Leaders' Summit in Hiroshima.

In short remarks made to media Friday, the prime minister said more than 70 new sanctions focus on people who are supporting Russia's illegal military action and complicit in human rights violations.

He says Canada will continue to support Ukraine and the international rules-based order.

The Prime Minister's Office says the sanctions are on “17 individuals and 18 entities linked to Russian companies that provide military technology and know-how to Russia's armed forces, family members of listed persons, and members of the Kremlin elite.”

Sanctions will also be applied on 30 individuals and eight entities “involved in Russia's ongoing human rights violations, including the transfer and custody of Ukrainian children in Russia.”

In March, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for President Vladimir Putin and Russian children's rights commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova, accusing them of abducting children from Ukraine.

Other G7 countries are expected to announce their own sanctions on Russia as leaders meet to discuss geopolitical tensions, particularly with China and Russia.

Yet he refused to sell natural gas to Germany so they have to keep buying it from Russia, despite stupid, virtue signaling sanctions.

Wow 70 sanctions, must be pretty serious. Somebody should ask him to name a few of them, see if he remembers.

Glad to hear that you like to have an imbecile for a leader.

He is your kind of people.

Why do you think he keeps getting re-elected! I will sound insulting for some (or most) I believe it’s because of some deteriorating intellect in the country. Soon the catholic school uniform will be the colour of rainbow! Kids in Canada know very well what those colours mean! It’s a part of a forced school curriculum now days.
And A little bit of heroin and fentanyl is perfectly legal in some provinces..
And Sanctions, are sure very effective from the get go! let’s just do more! … Russia clearly cares big time:)
Same guy doing the Right, Very thought through thing again

Because our Duffus prime minister prioritizes LGBTQ2s over LNG
We would have 5 Billion to make an LNG terminal if the conservatives did not force the government to bailout that 5 billion dollar pipeline to sell Alberta's oil to China who does not want our oil.

Too bad that LNG transfer terminals aren't as easy to create as a narrative about trans people.
That's why our dimwitted prime minister prefers easy, virtue signaling projects like "70 sanctions" over difficult, world improving projects.

LGBTQ2s is not only about trans people as much as you would like rest of us to believe.

We would have 5 Billion to make an LNG terminal if Liberals did not give it to Ukraine.

Spending the money on LNG terminal would have been an investment that would pay for itself and make Canada a richer country.

???????????????

Do you have any clue of what goes in to developing a LNG terminal or how long it takes? Do you have any explanation why Canada should have spent billions over the decades to build an overseas terminal when all of out LNG exports go to the states?

But at least you understand that the whole culture war narrative is just bullshit to distract you from how badly right-wing politicians are out to screw the average person.

Ah, no. If you have LNG terminals, you don't have to sell to America at cut-rate. It takes about 4 years, btw, to build one and we have two coasts with potential customers in Asia and Europe...and the federal government led by a moron. Meanwhile, smart people are doing smart things.

Have you ever been involved in any kind of business planning? Most people don't spend billions hoping for there to maybe be a deal to be made. And of course if Trudeau actually had done it, you'd instead be bitching about him spending all that money for no reason.

Just another asinine complaint because Trudeau is in the Liberal party.

Oh we have more then 5 billion. Just use what the Carbon tax takes in.
With the carbon tax increasing to $65 per tonne, about $8.2 billion is expected to be collected from the carbon tax alone in 2022-23.

Please, will you come back to the world of living? Business development is all about confidence and Trudeau, throughout all of his time as PM, pursued pie in the sky environmental garbage to the detriment of our energy industry. When Germany came calling, he rambled about hydrogen- which we don't have and send them on their way. A perfect illustration. We have literally billions upon billions for battery subsidies for Volkswagen (and others), but nothing for something that can actually enrich Canada and our people.

I guarantee it that the usage of fossil fuels will continue to increase, especially the liquefied natural gas.
