Lets always pick on the truck drivers. They should make recorders mandatory in cars and trucks too, and if your constantly speeding it automatically records it, sends it to the MTO and your insurance company. That might slow some of these high speed assholes slow down. What a terrible tragedy for both parties. The trucker will likely never be able drive a truck again and basically has no way to provide for his family. Fortunately, there was a dash cam pointed at the driver that also recorded speed to record everything. More reason to make recorders mandatory on large vehicles like trucks, buses, ambulances, etc.
Yea this will be the last thing on the screen before a self driving truck takes out 30 peopleSelf driving trucks are going to save a lot of lives.
Not a bad idea actually, that'll probably happen at some point in the future.Lets always pick on the truck drivers. They are on board satellite systems that are connected to the trucks ecm which records everything as well as being a gps and it's not just Walmart trucks that have them. The company I worked for had satellites in all their trucks and the owner operators trucks as well. Not a bad idea actually, that'll probably happen at some point in the future.
I know that Wal-Mart trucks actually have GPS units in them that tell the office where the truck is and how long it's taking them to get to a location, this then also tells them how long they're taking at a specific location to unload, etc.
Modern cars already have that. It's called an event data recorder or EDR. It's like a black box on an aircraft. When you're in a crash, it saves information for the last 5 seconds prior to the event.Commercial vehicles are more dangerous no matter how safely someone drives them. It's just physics that an 18-wheeler will cause more damage than a Corolla.
I think the privacy advocates are going to have a field day if anyone suggests putting recorders into private cars. Go after the low hanging fruit by getting them into commercial vehicles and then hopefully private cars will follow suit. The insurance companies do have those tele-matics devices that plug into the diagnostic port of most cars. They are supposed to save you money on your insurance by monitoring your driving habits. Sooner or later all cars should have some sort of recording device that at minimum records speed, mechanical status of the car and what the driver was doing with the pedals, wheel and other controls.
