You have to bribe the security $20 bucks, but it is well worth it.

The resort is full of seniors and single guys..

30-40CUC per hour or per day? if per hour thats expensive for Cuba

Yeah, my bus stopped by on the way back to Varadero. It seemed dark and rather low end. However, we are speaking of a no frills hotel that allows working girls. It seems to be a good choice for that purpose, if one is not fussy about accommodation. Anyway, Tripadvisor is not the right forum for a Terb member, as most reviews are from women and families. They also block certain discussions that don't meet their requirements. The hotels listed at the top in Havana are all very much family hotels, and will not allow working girls (unless you grease someone). Even some casas don't allow visitors.

I've stayed with my "Cuban novia" at the Tropicoco and agree that it's on the lower end of the scale, however, it isn't a dump. It's situated in Playa des Estes which is an eastern suburb of Havana. You can take a cab from the hotel and be in downtown Havana in less than 30 minutes. There is an excellent beach less than 20 seconds from the front door of the hotel where 80% of the people are Cubans and not overweight tourists. Guanabo is less than 10 minutes from the hotel and is home to what I think is the best Italian restaurant in all of Cuba. Believe it or not, I have no idea what the name of the restaurant is, but all you have to do is ask any local and they will tell you where it is (it's spitting distance from 5th avenue which is the main drag in Guanabo)

Trust me, I DON'T trust you. We are supposed to trust your snobbish review by only driving by the place? You've never set foot inside? C'mon if you don't know then maybe you should just keep quiet instead of flapping your yap. Maybe it is an older property, but I know people that find it is just right for what they like. The location is beachside, but still close to Havana. It isn't easy to find a resort that allows lady visitors.

There's no point going to Cuba if you're going to stay in a low end place. Hello? Vacation? Enjoy and pamper yourself!!!

Besides, I don't 'hobby' in Cuba. There is no point with so many sweet, willing non-pros. That's what my apartment is for and with so many good, classy hotels available for such great prices, why stoop as low as Tropicoco?

There was supposedly an incident involving a couple of Cuban guys and some German tourists at Hotel Atlantico, just down the street from Tropicoco. As a result there is quite a police presence in the neighbourhood now.

There was a roadblock at the intersection coming down the hill, one or two policemen at the back entrance to Tropicoco, two standing guard on the sidewalk across from the front entrance. No girls at all standing around out front like in past times.

I was at Casa De La Musica a few times, and La Cecilia one night. The girls there were asking for $100 as a starting price. I think the Europeans are spoiling things by paying those prices and higher.

i go down there in May every year inbetween thailand,i hope things go back to norm by then because i love that area/playa de este and the tropicoco is my home base,there's always going to guanabo and club guanimar to get what i want

I don`t know when the incident allegedly happened, but the crackdown was still ongoing at Tropicoco the week before last.

I was at Guanimar with a girl and a friend of hers told her the DT were outside. I mentioned it to a Cuban friend who works there. He said he didn't see any in the club as he knows most of them, so he went outside to check. He said it was more serious than usual, as the DT were also taking the names of the foreign men with the girls. I'm not sure what happened after that, the girl I was with was concerned and wanted to go home.

hopefully things revert back to normal by May because a santa maria beach/guanabo crackdown will change my travelling plans
