I have a question for anyone using torrents.

What speeds are you getting for your downloads ? how long should it take to dl a movie or game say between 3-5 GB?

I'm just trying it for the first time. I'm using burst. From what I read however , I think something is wrong. My max download speed is 118kb/s with an average of 63 kb/s .

can anyone recommend a good client to use(something really foolproof).doesn't have to have a lot of features , simplicity of use is my main concern right now, at least til I become more familiar with this stuff.

Thanks.

Part of the issue is the ISP (provider) torrents suck up bandwith and ISP will regulate that. Google on how to encrypt torrent with your software and that should help you out. FB is also very right in diagnosing your issue

I thought it was all dependent on the # of downloaders and seeders.

Yeah, for me this would be a pretty good DL speed. Some of the better ones DL at 125-150Kbs but on average I would say those numbers are pretty good.

As someone else mentioned there are ways using encytion to make them better but I am happy with these speeds so I have never looked into that.

use this software to download torrents file..

for the speed its depend on where u live in condo or house. if u live in condo then u get extrem speed but if u live in house and u have rogers high speed extream internet then u get about 212 kb/s that is last no more then that even the movie or game u downloading has lots of seeders.

for the speed its depend on high speed and low speed interent.
which one u using.. if u are using rogers Hig speed extrem) then download movies form http://torrentspy.com/
me download all movies from here. i get about 480 kb/s sometime.

its even matter that how many programs running( how many Porns running? LOL) on the time u downloading ?

I get some pretty good speeds, usually 200 kb/s up to 300 kb/s, as long as its a good torrent.

Some tips:
1. XP limits the number of half-open ports to 10. You CAN'T get good speeds with just connecting to 10 other peers. There is a program I found but can't recall where (it's on a different computer) that you can use to change the number. The hacker who made it recommends changing to 50. I usually open around 100 or 200. However, keeping these open is a danger because if your computer is compromised by a bot a hacker might be using your open ports to send out spam, viruses, etc. Remember to change the open ports back to 10 after. It is a change in your registry file as well as a tweak to your torrent client.

2. You need to limit the upload speed to something not too high that it will take up your bandwidth, but not too low either, because with torrents you have to give to receive. I limit the upload to 70 kb/s and it seems to be in the sweet spot there. You're suppose to calculate it as a percentage of your bandwidth.

Do a google on those two things (half-open ports, and upload speed for torrents) and you should find out more about this.

I got 200 kb/s down on a Keane torrent last night, that had 45 seeds. But with most torrents (1-2 seeds) I get around 10-50.

I use Azureus and am on bell hs, usually I cn maintain a speed of 450-550 kb/s. But bear in mind this is from a private site (www.torrentbytes.net) from public sites like piratebay and such the speeds vary alot more.

That's probably a bigger factor than your connection. Your download speed is always going to be limited by the amount of upload bandwidth from your seeds and fellow leeches, and how many other files they may be uploading concurrently. If all of the seeds were using Rogers, things might be REALLY slow.

I think your speed is reasonable, although I have had as much as 500 occasionally. Just start your client, and let it run in the background when you're on the computer.
Another issue tho, is your data download limit from your internet supplier. When I first found torrents, I went crazy. Then got a bill for $250 from my supplier for going way way over my data limit (which was 10 gigs up, and 10 gigs down). Now I have raised my limit slightly, but I keep track of it, and stay within it.
