i'm a new user of torrents. did a d/l of two concerts and succesfully burnt the dvd.
problem is the dvd doesn't play on my main player(sony), but will play on two other cheaper brand players.
i have used all different media R-, +, RW-, +, some sony, memorex etc and same results. they will not play on main player - sony.

i tired different burning software(nero, clone dvd2), and always same result.

any clues??

ps: i'm an old codger, new to tech stuff, please keep it simple if possible

From one codger to another. Data 1960 has valid points. Please try all the stuff he has suggested. Yes, burning at a slower speed has it's advantages.

Make sure you are not using cheap media. If can get 100 DVD's for 7.49, I wouldn't be sure if those are good. Buy brand name, such as Maxell and Fuji.

Another thing to note is that certain downloads may be Region specific. Your Sony is probably built to NTSC (stand for Never Twice the Same Color - LOL) standards. Cheaper DVD players are forgiving as far as Regions go, so you may be able to play a PAL video on the cheaper machine, but not on the Sony.

While Sony would have better error correction, the cheaper machines will forgive the errors on the disk and play it anyway, while Sony may refuse to do so.

Are you burning avi or wmv to DVD or are you converting to (or downloading) MPEG-2 and burning that to DVD? A lot of cheap models support DivX/Xvid playback while a lot of high end models don't. MPEG-2 would be identified by a folder on the DVD called VIDEO_TS.

Get a DVD player that supports Divx as your main player and your problems should go away. Walmart sell a Phillips that says on the box it will play just about everything you can throw at it for about fifty bucks.

thanks

data1960, for me, your points #4 and #6 are most critical, and i'll follow up on that.

cypherpunk, they must be mpeg files because they say video_ ts.

i have tried Sony discs and Memorex.

Thanks to everyone, if there is any more info out there, please advise, as i'm just learning. It looks like I'll check my firmware for updates as a first step.
to hungry and Rigel7 also good advice.

Thanks to all
