I was driving north on Dufferin between Bloor and Eglinton last night and felt like I was driving on train tracks! Every 6 feet there was a rectangle cut out of the road. When the guys filled them back in they left a two inch lip which bangs the tires and pisses me the f%$k off!

Trust me. When it comes to road, Toronto is so fucking embarassing. We spend so much money on it, but the results look like shit. Either the quality control manager does not do his/her job or we just have contractors with shitty skilld, we all should be embarrased.

I think both.

Every where you go now its construction. Curbs, sewers, watermanes, repaving. And they take so damn long to finish it too. I think the city is purposely trying to piss drivers off so they will get fed up driving and take public transit. It won't work though. All this does is frustrate drivers more because it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get from point A to point b. Now you see why businesses are leaving Toronto in droves. When will these morons at city hall wake the fuck up?

Not counting all the money we are spending on car repairs, front end work, shocks, etc. I have never seen roads so bad.

You guys probably don't wanna hear this but I've found that the Gardiner and QEW has actually improved dramatically in recent years.

When you combine ashphalt (cheaper than concrete) with cold Canadian winters and extremely heavy vehicle use (the 401 is the busiest highway in North America), it's no surprise the roads can be bad.

Bottom line, there simply isn't enough money to address the problems.

Our City council's priority is not infratructure, it's social welfare. Far more money gets spent on the bottomless pit of "homelessness" than gets spent on fixing roads, bridges, watermains, and sewers.

It has nothing to do with the Contractors and Engineers carrying out the work. The decision on which roads to fix and when are made by the politicians.

Let me clarify....

The "homeless budget" in the City of Toronto is about 230 million a year.

The bridge repair budget is about 65 million a year.

For example.

I believe there are about 700 full time staffers at the City of Toronto who work in the homeless industry.

the homeless industry.
Now there's Ontario's problem. Not a particularly profitable industry.

I lived in T.O for 10 years then moved to Halifax. T.O is 100 times better then N.S. I really feel like im in a third world Country here in N.S.

I have zero sympathy for you :) .

I believe we possibly can generate some revenue just by putting those "homeless" people to work in return of free shelter and food. Make them volunteer!

I moved here from Montreal and I have to say, that the roads here are amazing compared to Montreal.
To put things in perspective, it would be like comparing the Maple Leafs Stanley Cup successes to those of the Habs, with Toronto's roads being the equivalent to the Habs' Stanley Cup successes and the Montreal roads being the equivalent to the Leaf's Stanley cup successes.

How's that for a back handed complimentary analogy?

How about using the homeless to fill potholes? I'm sure they are much cheaper then using actual asphalt.
LMAO.

Maybe the "homeless" ones, yes.

The problem with homelessness in Toronto is that it has become an industry unto itself. No-one wants to end the problem if their livelihood depends on it. A few years ago, they wanted to do a census on the homeless, however, that got derailed just as they were about to start because someone felt that it violated their right to privacy.

I have no doubt that there are some truly homeless people out there. People are who mentally not well and or physically challanged, however, I have to wonder with the kind of money we are throwing at the issue why it isn't getting any better.

I think you've already answered your own question. The symbiotic relationship between bureaucrats and "problems".
