The U.S. charged a Tunisian man with visa fraud, saying he intended to stay in the country to facilitate an act of international terrorism.
Ahmed Abassi, who was arrested last week, was charged with knowingly making false statements in an application to immigration authorities, federal prosecutors in Manhattan said.

TORONTO — A Tunisian the FBI says “radicalized” VIA Rail terror suspect Chiheb Esseghaier has been charged with terrorism-related offences in New York following an undercover investigation.

In a document filed in court, federal prosecutors alleged Mr. Abassi and Mr. Esseghaier had discussed “proposed terrorist plot” including contaminating the air or water with bacteria that would kill 100,000 people.They also discussed the train plot, but Mr. Abassi thought that while the plans were “good,” the timing was not right. After he was arrested at New York’s Kennedy airport, he denied any knowledge of Mr. Esseghaier’s plots, the prosecutors said in a letter.
