Possibly losing your job for $6K? Either those cops are dumb or it's common enough an event they assumed they'd get away with it.
Cops on the drug squad have been known to be in a position to take early retirement. They often come into contact with large sums of untraceable cash and controlled substances and for some the allure of taking a cut is irresistible.
Nice. The perp walked, years of investigative work down the toilet. The drug dealer knew exactly how much he had and the cops were dumb enough to steal more than lunch money. Years ago, I had a very good buddy in vice. He always brought "good shit" for the weekend. I see nothing is changed.
Wasn't there some case a few years ago where the Toronto or Peel copper grabbed some Elvis statue or some other gaudy memorabilia item from a drug dealers storage locker?
EDIT: It was a Scarface statue and $60,000 in cash. Peel Piggie Richard Rerrie, 48, not only got caught, but he took three other DISHONEST COPS WHO WERE EVEN MORE CORRUPT FUCKING DISGRACES TO THE UNIFORM AND BADGE pleaded guilty to perjury obstructing justice for lying about it. Thankfully for the decent cops out there, the plea bargain also required these mutts also resigned. One was even a Sargeant, ffs.
And cops wonder why the public have lost respect and don't trust them?

My friend used to be an under cover drug cop many years ago. He said it was common for the Vietnamese drug dealers to leave stacks of cash on cupboard shelves with the hopes the cops would pocket the cash and say, "nothing to see here" and walk away without making an arrest.

Times are tough I guess for many - I wouldn't know how it feels to be in their position, but I do have enough common sense to know what is right and what is wrong. The basics we learn from childhood are still there - too bad for them that they got caught.
After University I took a few college courses.
Every single person I met taking the Police Foundations course was a drug dealer.

There is a saying that cops are the world's largest street gang....And it really is true. I know not all cops are corrupt, but most turn a blind eye to the bad apples. I recall some Peel police officers (which I think are a different set from the ones mentioned by @SchlongConery) who were found to have perjured themselves in court. As far as I can tell, none of them received any disciplinary action and are likely still constables in Peel as we speak.
Now, our cops are no where as bad as some that we see on the US news. But, I think in situations like this, there should be zero tolerance for cops who lie on the stand or steal. They should no longer be cops because they have broken the trust of the justice system.
