Amazing the the driver did not get hit after 15 rounds. It's not murder but could it be attempted murder?

I'm very interested in hearing why and what he is charged with. He fired rounds in to an engine block to try and disable a vehicle that was apparently about to move.

I'm willing to bet those who were advocating leg shots in previous threads, will still be uppity about a cop shooting an engine block.

Better than shooting the driver. Problem solved in any case. Cop made a judgement call to disable a vehicle. Seemed it worked. Nobody got hurt. If it was Forcillo, you'd have a Bonnie and Clyde scene with a dead guy strapped in the driver's seat with bullet holes everywhere.

Going by your posts in other threads, the cop should have shot to kill..... 9 bullets into centre mass.

See? Not every confrontation has to result in shoot to kill.

However, given the situation (the guy's car was boxed in), there was no need to shoot anyway. But at least he shot the car and not the driver.

This situation is very similar to Forcillo. A suspect is boxed in. Forcillo shot to kill. This cop shot to disable the car..... though overboard as the car wasn't going anywhere anyway.

Another case of excessive shooting. But at least nobody got hurt.... or killed this time.

These two are completely different cases. Forcillo murdered the kid. This cop tried to disable the cars engine by shooting it. Nobody was in danger. The guy tried to move the car.

Ya,...that was my understanding also.

Forcillo sure is doing his fellow cops any favours.

But they should have spoken up a long time ago.

Maybe attempting to kill a four cylinder ?

Under the Police Services Act, police are forbidden from shooting at a vehicle to try to stop it. No if's, ands, or buts.

According to the report, there was a brief pursuit, so the cops were engaged in some cat and mouse.

It really depends on the situation when the driver got boxed in. If he got dead stopped and gave up, there is no need to shoot. If it seemed like he'd floor it and try to ram his way out, then I can see shooting the car being justified.

Either way, there is no hint of the driver ramming or shooting the cops. It looked like a car chase. So no need to shoot the guy...... unless it was Forcillo. he'd shoot a kid stealing a bag of chips.

Nope, under no circumstances can cops shoot at vehicles to try to stop them.

I remember watching different videos when this happened. In several once you were able to Se the driver trying to force the car ahead almost running over the cop. It was justified. They should really go use their investigations on bad cops like l Forcillo. There are plenty of them.

It might also be that he fell back to his military training as he had been to Afghanistan. Shooting a cars engine block is something we learned in the military to try and stop a vehicle that could be a suicide bomber, etc.

Really?

If that's the law, then he'll be charged.
Look it up, it's right there in the PSA. Being charged, and being convicted are 2 very different things. And if convicted, in light of the circumstances, what will his penalty be? The highest penalty under the PSA is dismissal. I'm guessing it will be alot less than that.

Shooting an engine block with a 40 cal jacketed hollow point isn't going to come close to penetrating.

Probably not, even considering the block was most likely aluminum, but the shots could easily take out the ignition or other essential components.

Question, do our cops actually use hollow points?

Charges are under the Police Services Act. 15 rounds into a stopped vehicle engine. Sounds like it was unnecessary discharge of the weapon in the circumstances. Wonder if in light of the Forcillo case they are trying to send a message about blasting away, assume the officer emptied his gun's ammunition clip.
Of course it does. The vehicle was surrounded. I guess he had never used his weapon in action before and was frustrated.

They better...because again, the ammunition they use is specified by the PSA. Can't use hardball ammo. And whether it could hit engine components or not is a moot point. Shooting at a vehicle to stop it is forbidden.
