Planning to drop in to see a few rides. I think I'm due for my mid-life crisis.

Usually go every year just to see what's new and what's hot.

CAA members can get discounted tickets online.

Sorry to thread jack but this is the main reason why I'm going. 2 of the 3 cars I'm interested in have digital dashboards. I love everything about these cars except the damned digital display. I think it looks like shit. I don't get why carmakers feel the need to make fancy digital displays only to have them mimic analog gauges. Unless I'm wowed in person at the show, I think this will actually be a deal breaker and "force" me to fallback to option 3.

Thoughts?

It's a great place to do some comparison shopping and with some luck the manufacturers you want to see will have knowledgeable people staffing their booths.

Speaking of which, my friend has one of these on order. I can't wait to drive it this summer at Mosport.

Which ones have digital dashboards? I doubt I would like them either. Video gauges would drive me nuts. I'm old school when it comes to stuff like that.

I went to the car show a few years ago to see what the fuss is all about . I found out . It was so boring for me . Fancy little mid life crises cars that can go really fast . Big deal. Like who cares how fast a car can go or how fast you can go in 60secs . The speed limit is 100 k on most big highways in Ontario . Go any faster than that and you're breaking the law .

Many of these European cars cost a bloody fortune . No big deal if your daddy war bucks I suppose . Just look at the used foreign cars that that are available these days . Once the factory warranty is done people get rid of these cars . They cost a fortune to repair . No problem if you have deep pockets .

I'm a truck guy . Not interested in these fancy little mid life crises cars . If you see me on the road you'd better move over or speed up . Truck guy coming thru .:p

I'm with you. It's become stupid, catering to the ipad crowd who seem to think that if it's not on a screen it's unworthy. I'm old enough to recall when the 84 Corvette hit the street, one of the huge selling features was a fully digital dashboard. At first it seemed cool, but the Germans never drank the koolaid on it and eventually, analogue gauges won the day.

I feel the same about all the climate and radio commands requiring one to tap into various screens, menus, pull down menus, etc. A simple command now takes 3 to 4 steps. It's absurd. Volume on a radio can be set really quickly and simply with the turn of a knob. Same with fan speeds, tuning, etc. One movement and no thought required. (A good thing when you're driving down the road at 100 km/hr.)

And yes, I'll be going. I'll be heading for the Jaguar exhibit. Audi and BMW as well. Also Maserati, maybe see if Alfa is back this year.

Maybe check out Lexus, some of the North American pony cars.

I will skip right past GM, Infiniti and Acura though. Honda, Mazda are also snoozers.

I like fast cars. That's why I go to tracks like Mosport, Shannonville, Calabogie, Mont-Tremblant. Drive as fast as I want, pushing the limits of the car with no fear of speeding tickets.

I especially dislike digital tachometers that fill up a bar instead of seeing a sweeping needle. But it wouldn't be a deal breaker if I liked the rest of the car.

Nope not really . Just stating the facts and how I see things . The Automobile Show was a waste of time for me . It's not for everyone but if it turns your crank then go for it .

The question was are you going to the show and what interests you . I said NO and gave my reasons why . Is that a problem for you ??? What would you like me to say ??? Oh yea it's great and I can't wait to go . That would be a lie .

I'll be their on $12 Tuesday. I like to go and see what's new and it's a hassle free way to check out cars that I may be interested in the future.

What does your insurance policy say? A lot of them will not provide coverage if there's an injury on the track and some will even cancel the policy if they find out you've taken the car to a track. Unfortunately, the evil insurers will always find a way to weasel out of covering their customers if they can find a way.

Then, there's the cost of servicing the car once you're done at the track, particularly brakes & rubber which will get worn quickly with track usage. I love pushing a car to its limits on the track but it's far less hassle renting a car from one of the companies that do this at the track than taking (& endangering) your own ride.
