To tattoo or not to tatoo...

That is the question...

I have wanted to get a tattoo forever... yet I am terrified to think about it even a small one... so a couple of questions...

1. Does it hurt?
2. Should I follow a desire and satisfy it?
3. Do guys find them sexy?

Curious is all... but desperately trying to take the plunge.

Thanks everyone,

Kris

Kris,
If you remember, I have a little purple butterfly tattooed on my left cheek, which I had done many years ago.

It's the only one I have and it's small and in a discreet area, but I remember I was so afraid it was going to hurt.
Yet, it didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought it would........there were some seconds when I would feel a twinge of pain, but it was more discomfort and some soreness afterwards.
What I do remember is that during the procedure, I felt nauseated a few times but that was it.

I suppose it depends on how large a tattoo you want and how much area of the body it will cover. I was also told that it hurts less if it's done in a more fleshy part of the body, such as the derriere.

You should get more feedback from some others who have several tattoos, as I'm only speaking about my own very small one.

IMHO tattoos can be sexy as long as they are done in (what I consider) good taste.

Large tattoos are not that attractive on a woman's body. I think tats should be used to accenuate what a woman has (or to hide a scar etc).

I really don't like the large ones on the small of a woman's back just over her cheeks. I think they totally ruin that lucious part of her body.

Stay away from roses they've been done to death. The absolute cutest I ever saw were: a little bumblebee over her nipple (the nipple was the bee's nose) and a little stickman pushing a lawnmower right at the edge of her pubic hair. (it even has little tattoo clippings flying off the lawnmower) I can send you a pic of it if you're interested.

I like tats that are hidden like they are your little secret only to be shown to those that get close to you.

Another good one (IMHO) is a tiny red heart on a spot on your body that get's you turned on the most (besides your love button). Then when you're with a man you can tell him to "shoot for the heart" to get your motor running.

VERY good point Don, if you're going to do it, make sure it is in good taste and discrete.

Women especially need to be careful about the placement of the tattoo. As we age, things shift, no matter how much we try to avoid it. And is a visible tattoo ever attractive on a 70 year old woman. We may not like to think of ourselves in that category, but I do hope to still be a sexual object being pursued by sexy older men when I reach that age bracket.

Also, don't do it if you are simply following the current fashion craze. Do it because it has some specific meaning in your life and are making a statement that you will still believe in for the rest of your life. Although they can lazer them out, the process frequently leaves scarring and is not complete. Be sure that this is what you want, and to be honest, from your post it doesn't sound like it is.

I personally always wanted my name converted to a UPC code and put on my butt. That way I can get it scanned at the grocery store and see my net worth!!!

I personally don't find tats attractive because they usually take away from a woman's natural beauty and I always wonder what they will look like in 40 years. I've seen some old guys with tattoos and they don't look very good.
I've also seen some very intricate tattoos that were the result of trying to cover the original tattoo because it lost its significance.
Try some temporary ones to see how they look on you and what the reaction is by the others that will see them.

Good luck.

Mrs. Stiffler's right... Do it because it has some specific meaning in your life and are making a statement that you will still believe in for the rest of your life.... or something that says something about you!

When you're getting it done.. it's like someone is scraping a needle across your skin... actually... someone IS scraping a needle across you skin.. then for about a week or so it's gonna feel like a real intense sunburn... at least thats what I thought it felt like... and it's gonna SERIOUSLY scab up... but DON'T PICK THE SCAB... or else it'll fuck up your tatt.

Keep it natural....if you really want one keep it small and discrete. If you get a big one, you might regret it over time. Personally tattoo's and piercings don't do anything for me. Too many piercings and big tattoo's are a turn off. What kind of a statement do they make?

1. A violin
2. The bow of a three mast clipper
3. A woman's body

One of these things is not like the other; one of these things just isn't the same.

As a happily tattooed woman with free will, I must say that being considered equal to an inanimate object says more about the observer than the choices made by a woman with tattoos ;)

As for the lady asking about what men will think about her having a tattoo - if you are that concerned about the opinion of someone you may meet only a few times in your life, you should very definitely not get a tattoo.

Tattoos are for you - IMHO, what other people think should be largely irrelevant.

Ophelia: You missed his point! He wasn't considering anything equal to anything, he was pointing out that a woman's body is one of the most beautifly designed things. As for what is said about the observer, he seems to appreciate well designed shapes and forms. My hats off to him!

As for asking for opinions: hell, we all look to others for opinions at one point or the other, hell that is what this board is for!

As for tattoos being only for you, that's a crock. The origin of tattooing was developed as a form of beautification to signify to OTHERS, success in battles, status among the various tribe members etc. To everyone, tattoos or body art can mean many things. Maybe to YOU wanting something that everyone else likes may be wrong, but to Kristen, she may want to beautify herself in a manner that is acceptable to others (as well as to herself). As Kristen is the owner/operator/?? of loving ladies, she will probably never meet anyone whose opinions are expressed here.

hmmm...

funny thing about tattoos....i personally have 4 fair sized tats but,..
yes; it hurts - i have a cadeceus on my left shoulder, a portrait of jesus' head on my right shoulder, a celtic/tribal cross covering my entire left shoulder blade and mid back area and a red maple leaf on my right shoulder blade.
no; i dont regret getting them - i've had them for many years and each tat signifies an important stage in my life - important to me and no one else.
yes; some tattoos on women are sexy, but; think! if you were wearing a low back spaghetti strap dress would you really want something gawdy like a crawling panther on your shoulder blade?
some find that unattractive. and keep in mind, that sometimes depending on where the tat is located - think stretch marks and or sagging...that tattoo can look scary in a hurry.

Keep in mind that the cost of removing a tattoo is unbelievably high - so think first!
Look at it this way, i know a lot of people with celtic arm bar tattoos that are regretting it - a few years ago it was fashionable, but now; in a lot of tattoo circles, they're considered silly.

I don't like tatoos on a woman, and neither do any of my male friends. I find that they detract from a women's beauty especially the ones that are placed on the lower back. It totally ruins the whole experience of looking at a women's butt.

Natural women = good.

Tattoos, fake breasts and piercings = bad. [/B][/QUOTE]

I couldn't agree more. Why would you want to put foreign objects in your body? Do you think it's healthy?

Unless it's my foreign member......

"a woman's body is one of the most beautifly designed things"

No dude...you missed my point.

A woman's body actually has a woman inside and is not a thing. ;)

I'm not talking about the origins of tattooing - I'm talking about getting a tattoo now, in our particular society.

Any tattoo wears much better if your priority is that it reflects something about yourself, and is not something based on your interpretation of what you think other people may want right at this particular moment in time.

Because you never damn know what other people like, and what they may like changes anyways. Be true to yourself and you and your tattoo will get along just fine.

I've got four, and there's only one flash piece that I got in Mexico. One is a political, another is philosophical, one is a symbol of a friend (these I designed myself) and the last was done to mark my living in Mexico and learning another language.

A tattoo doesn't need to have a 'heavy' meaning - but you're the one looking at it for the next 50 years, so it's best to please yourself before worrying too much about other people.

Side note - aside from that, the most important considerations are placement; the tattoo's scale in relation to where on the body you want to put it; and its scale in relation to your overall body size.

Tats are personal things.

some might argue them as art, others as needless scaring of the body.

Personally I find a tatto sexy if it is not dreadful and or so big it detracts from the lady.
