Well some kid is trying to make some money delivering papers. Not sure if he is trying to get fired but for the past few months, hes delivering 4-5 copies of the paper for every time we are expecting a paper. Its good if there are coupons but a pain to throw them out. Should I report him or not?

So close and yet so far.

I wonder if he's getting lots of extras, and this is his way of getting rid of them. Or is he only doing a quarter of his route?

Either way, I wouldn't be the one to report him. Someone else probably will though, especially if other customers are missing their papers.

I can think of only one reason why the paperboy would be getting more papers than he needs to have. It is because circulation is down and newspapers are near extinction that they try the tactic of dropping papers at non subscribers doors free in hope that they will subscribe. Maybe they are giving the kid extra papers and he has to deliver them for free.
Just put a note out for the kid not to drop off extra papers, or take them and put them in the recycle box.

how is he making extra money? Are you foolish enough to actually pay for what you didn't order? Sounds to me like he's giving you bonus free of charge. It could be mandated by the paper themselves.

I wouldn't get Ceiling Cat in trouble, finding another job will be difficult.
Leave him some treats with a note about your concern, as well maybe a few empty liquor bottles for him to collect the deposit.

Maybe he decides to stop his route at your house and places the burden on you of delivering to the remaining 3 houses after you.

I'd ask him next time which three neighbours he expects you to deliver them to.

The ones to the left or the right of you.

These guys who deliver your Star/Sun/National Post/Globe&Mail aren't being paid min wage. They only make .10 to .25 for each paper they deliver (can't remember what the delivery guys told me).
But if you really want to get them where it hurts. Just call in and say you didn't receive your paper today. If that happens, they get a penalty of $2 deduction from their pay. Meaning they just delivered 8 to 20 papers at their expense.

You have to keep busy to stay afloat.
It's tougher in the winter to retrieve liquor bottles or pick up scrap metal. It's a bit sloppy to push a shopping cart or ride a bike.
However, the competition is probably staying indoors so you might do okay.

He probably won't get fired. No ones wants that job anyway. They don't pay nearly enough. When I was a paper person I was "warned" all the time and they never fired me. I would put papers wherever I felt, depending on my mood. If I felt like my job was a pile of sh*t, I'd just throw it wherever I felt and not deliver to certain houses if I didn't like them or if I wasn't in the mood.

I'm not saying that's what this kid is doing, but they don't get paid very much. If I remember correctly, you got paid like 5 cents a paper and a penny or half a penny for every flyer and back when I was doing it, you had to bundle every flyer together and insert it in every paper and roll it up and put an elastic band on it. Even at like 12 years old I knew it was a rip off. I don't understand these adults that do it. If they can walk around and deliver papers, their time could be better spent at a real job earning minimum wage and making more money.

What could be happening is that your the last person on his route and he's getting rid of his extra's. It doesn't really matter if you report him, they won't fire him. They'll figure out if he has extra's and they'll stop giving him so many and that will probably result in a whole 30 cent pay cut and less work for the kid. or you could just talk to him. He's probably not anything like I was as a kid and you can probably reason with him. lol

Maybe they are doing this in addition to their minimum wage job?

It's so time consuming. I couldn't imagine someone with a large route having a second job. I know a guy who does papers, he goes all the way to pick up his papers and flyers the night before and his place is littered with stacks of papers.
He wakes up at 5 in the morning and he isn't done until 9 or ten. Sometimes the trucks are delayed and he has to wait around for his papers and flyers to arrive and there are time the flyers don't show up at all. Once, he was told to deliver the paper because they were behind with the flyers and the paper "had to go out" and they expected him to do the same route a second time, just doing the flyers the second time around. Instead of doing it all in one shot they expected him to do the same route twice in one day when he was only getting paid pennies. . He was getting paid the same amount of money for half the work. Some days the truck carrying the bulk of the papers is late and he can't start until 9pm. It's just a big cluster f*ck.
