Does anyone know where I can buy very dark tinted license plate covers??
They have to be dark enough so photo radar cant take a photo of the license plate number.

Yes, tinted or any type of license plate covers are illegal in Ontario. The law mandates that license plates must be plainly visible at all times, and any obstruction, including tinted covers, is a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

But whats worse, getting 2 to 3 $85 tickets every year (which is what I'm currently averaging), or one $115 ticket for illegal license plate cover??

And I see lots of other cars with tinted license plate covers, so it doesnt look like cops are enforcing this very much

That's up to you. But I think you'll get charged with more than that if/when they stop you.

Depending on who is driving the car with the tinted plate.
If this lady is, no cop will want to upset her.

On the rare occasions when a smart ass PO gives you a ticket for it, fight it, and it will be dismissed.

Speaking from experience, driven for years with them due to the plate peeling.

As per previous comments, it is against the law , but hardly enforced.

Hardly enforced in the GTA. Along with having working headlights. It's a lot bigger roll of the dice with outside the GTA municipal police / OPP. Besides, it gives the police a pretext to pull you over, which may cause other problems.

My suggestion is to use Waze on your phone, or on Apple Car play / Android Auto. It does a good job marking and notifying you about cameras.

They need to make tinting windows illegal, nevermind license plates. It's impossible to see the car or traffic ahead of you because a lot of people that have dark ass tints.

First, my tint is stock, and nothing crazy, on my "not the biggest" current vehicle. I'd have more sympathy for being more strict about tints if headlights hadn't become eye searing, blue tinged, laser cannons. With after market add-ons being even worse. My last vehicle had no tint, and no auto dimming mirror... Never again.

A slight dark tint isnt good enough, they have to be super dark

True… when it’s something I’m unsure of, I usually look at the reviews that have pictures for a reality check.

Could also try Temu… again, no guarantees but a cheaper “mistake”

I remember seeing those on the US Amazon page, the rear-plate “blinds. Spy-movie gadgetry… Downside is if it dies on you.

Could also try Pacific Mall or some random flea market as well for dark plates.

Guessing Phil is primarily looking at those wonderful pole-mounted speed cameras.

Radar detectors, from my limited knowledge, only work when a radar signal is broadcast towards it.

Photo cameras, like 407 cameras, are rear plate focused.

Buy with a 30 day return. I don’t know if there is a difference between a Prime membership and returns.

Don’t buy 3 party seller though. You will get dinged usually for shipping items back.

But like said - read reviews with pics and if not dark enough, return until you find one that is.

How would I know if it is a THiRD party seller?
