Just when you thought you are safe from Black Bears, here is something else to worry about in the great outdoors. TICKS! They cause Lyme disease (nasty thing). Apparently, ticks are almost everywhere in Canada now.

People who do lots of mountain biking and trail running/hiking have known about ticks for years. If you at a doctor with some unexplainable symptoms, often it makes sense to mention you've been spending time in the woods.

Going to the 1000 Islands near Kingston quite often, I have been dealing with ticks on my dogs for several years. 1 did test positive for lyme disease a while ago, but was quickly treated with antibiotics.

According to the CBC report, ticks use to be only in a few isolated areas but now they are almost everywhere in Canada.

Other than DEET, is there anything else that can prevent tick bites? Oh, the CBC report said if you are bitten by a tick, bring the dead tick to the hospital with you.

Just finished picking about 30 off a dog. I was in the states for two days and the dog was in the woods. Always lots around in the bush. Not like down south but they`ve been widespread in Ontario for as long as I can remember.

You are lucky, not infrequently the antibiotics do not get it entirely and back it comes.

An luckier still that he got a diagnosis. The real problem with lyme disease is the number of people who suffer from it and think it's something else.
