Bell is also having an increase for the Internet services over the next couple of months. The Internet VPs at both Bell and Rogers are in sync on this one.

The next "new thing" for computers is a totally wireless connection. You take your laptop anywhere and you just log in.

The catch, this new company..i forget the name..is owned 50/50 by Rogers and Bell. They compete on pricing..(ya right) but share the same towers for broadcast.

There is no competitive pricing unless you take "bundles" of product.

Even then it's very close in price.

I do believe they set the price together. It's to close to be a co-incidence.

As fort his new service I cannot even begin to see how the CRTC said yes to this agreement. The 2 largest telcos, with an equal share. How does the consumer stand a chance?

On this topic.
While I don't like increase in price just as much if not more than anyone, I can't say I blame them too much. I own businesses that use highspeed and the cost of doing business keeps going up and up.

The reason why I don't really blame them is the cost of them doing business.
While they make huge sums of money, as a corporation, they are there to make money. They pay fair wages to their workers, compensate for overtime and the ever increasing cost of raw materials forces companies to raise their prices. Cable materials go up, fuel prices go up, transportation goes up. Everything is on the up and up, price wise.

Again, I fucking hate the high prices but am sympathetic at the same time. I'd be happy if they gave us 12 months for the price of 11. :)

the wireless medium is an iffy topic. This is how I look at it.
Why should I pay for service that anybody else can jump on.
These "hot spots" are accessible by anyone using blue tooth technology.
Currently there are small areas of hotspot in Canada and designated hot spots in the USA. If I was the traveller looking for a free ride, that would be great. However, if I was the guy who was getting with with increased bandwidth, that would suck.

Case in point, anyone who uses a wireless LAN at home is creating a small hotspot for other users. Someone can just walk by your house with a laptop and be connected. I don't like paying for other peoples playing.

i have a problem with them raising prices because (a) i cant use itunes (b) cant use p2p (c)disconnected newsgroups (d) 100GB a month limit
That is a very fair assessment. You should switch to another provider.
The only problem with switching is that DSL sucks ass.
If DSL was better, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
Thanks for bringing that stuff to light. I never knew about the 100gb limit.
The itunes and other stuff doesn't matter to me.

They may have taken out the VIP program, but their one bill plan bundle with 3 or more products gives you a 15% discount on all individual services. I have 3 phones, cable, internet and cell with Rogers and I get some huge discounts on all my services. So I will take 15% over 5% any day of the week.

Did hell just freeze over? I agree with KWI's statements 100%.

The only downfall is that I've always found Rogers to have poor reception in the cell department.

Rogers is full of shit

Yea, I got the same notice with my cable bill, and I'd have to say that Rogers is full of shit.

Their letter states, and I quote, "This is the first rate change since 2003 ..."

And yet, in August 2005, my monthly bill increased by $2.30, while there was absolutely no change at all to my service package. So where do they get off saying the rates haven't gone up for 3 years? Looks like they are liars as well as extortionists.

Where the hell does it end? I'm paying over 100 bucks a month, and all I'm getting is cable t.v. and cable internet ... no cell phones, HD, movie channels, or any other fancy bells and whistles. Yet when I asked to opt out of the shopping channel ... sorry, no can do. BULLSHIT!

Doesn't Rogers contract out most of their field work? The guys who come to your house to install/set-up/repair your connections do not work directly for Rogers. I don't see how they can justify the rate increase by blaming wage or fuel and transportation costs.

A friend of mine did it and got 60 something chanels for free b/c fucking Rogers cannot cut out the TV -- LOL :p
Yes this true but you must have will power to live on thie fancy style from my point of view.

I only have the DSL Medium speed , a phone line ; only because I need for the net; a TV; vcr;dvd player hooked up to rabbit ears , and most important A PUBLIC LIBRARY CARD. I get a dozen channels. Which is good enough for me.

The library card gives me access to plenty of free movies, I just walk/bike there but in winter I'll drive. And there is plenty of honies to see along the way and there.

Like the old word. If you can afford to buy it you can afford to pay for the long haul or costs of things.
Unfortunately services will never drop in prices only old fashion clothes drop on price.

I definetly don't agree with the 6.66% hike increase, which I don't even get at work.

Its absolutely ridiculous!! Don't these minimum 6 figure/year salary execs wonder why people were ditching their cable services and opting for an FTA receiver. They pretty much broke the bank buying up FIDO, the Jays, and the dome so I guess they think that we don't actually look at our bill to notice how they are making some quick money back to keep the creditors away. The way they keep screwing the average customer with download caps, file sharing capabilities, and totally shitty customer service I'm amazed that they haven't filed for chapter 11 yet.
