I think that will take EVERYONE by surprise. I like the one judge, "of all the things I expected to come out of your moth- that was the last thing on my list".
Kind of a male (I think) punker version of the woman from LY.
No one on the show was surprised, they were just acting so. They have heard the guy sing numerous times prior to him getting to that stage of the show and been warned off that his is one of those signature acts. The questioning by Cowell is also an indication that the producers (Cowell is one of them) have determined this guy will get a bit more press than others, so they script a bit more of a build-up than other competitors will get.
Sad part is, this show is the guy's only 15 minutes. Who's going to pay to hear that shit singing outside of a show like that? He may sound good to our untrained ears, but if he were a bona-fide operatic talent, the industry would already have heard his demos and hired him.

Nevertheless, others have used the show to advance their career, the only two I can think of off my head are Paul Potts and Susan Boyle.
Paul Potts:
In July 2007, Potts performed his rendition of "Nessun dorma" at a Katherine Jenkins concert at Margam Park.[16] On 16 July 2007, his debut album One Chance was released in UK, and claimed the number one spot in the UK Album Chart the following week. Susan Boyle I believe you will already be familiar with.
yeah you're cynical. Just because we have little or now opera exposure here at terb doesn't mean GOOD opera singers aren't in demand. I'm not expert but I think he could sing in any opera being performed anywhere in the world.....not a bad paying job......

Yeah, I agree....occasionally you get a performer who can do that and that's when you know they've got "it". Susan Boyle is another. Simply amazing voice...right up there with Sarah Brightman. Funny, she said she wanted to be like Ellen Page and everyone was scoffing...until she began to sing.
