notice that the symbols are always in a different place each time you do it

add the digits of any two digit number up, and subtract that from the original and you will always yield the same sequence of numbers

11: 1 + 1 = 2
11-2 = 9

12: 1 + 2 = 3
12-3 = 9

13: 1 + 3 = 4
13-4 = 9

19: 1 + 9 = 10
19 - 10 = 9

20: 2 + 0 = 2
20 - 2 = 18

etc...

so all they do at the end is show you whatever symbol lies on

9
18
27
36
45
54
63
72
81

all multiples of 9

whenever you subtract the sum of the digits from a 2 digit number you get a multiple of the number 9.

ie 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90

The map of symbols that appears always has the same symbol on every occurrance of these multiples of nine. So all of the numbers I listed above share the same symbol

Each time you play the game the symbols are shuffled so that a different common symbol appears above the numbers above thus giving the illusion that the game is guessing your number when in fact your number scientifically has to be one of the above I listed.

Try it....do the subtraction and you will see that any 2 digit number will produce one of the numbers above.

yeah it's a pretty simple setup when you think about it
all it does is juggle the symbols around each try and make sure that all the multiples of 9 contain the same symbol
and play eerie music and show some arabic

Obviously failed grade 11 math...because there are no 2 digit numbers that when the sum of the digits are subtracted from that number equal 90.

81 is the highest multiple in this case.

...sorry, the smartass-grade-11-prick-who-turned-his-nose-at-those-who-failed-grade-11-math came out of me there...:)

A simple proof:

If "a" and "b" are the numerals of a two digit number "ab"
ab can also be expressed as 10 times a ("a" is in the "tens" column) plus b or
10a +b

adding the two digits is a + b

subtracting the sum of the digits from the original number is

10a + b - (a + b) = 10a - a + b - b = 9a (by definition a multiple of 9).

A slightly more involved "fun with nines" mind-reading puzzle is http://digicc.com/fido/
