I really don't get why people on this board are so caught up on supporting legalization. Isn't there enough escort both incall and outcall as is in this city? Do you actually think legalization will increase the availability and the quality of SP? I doubt it.
In both Nevada and Netherlands, legalization lead to heavy regulation and government licensing control. Legal brothels in Nevada, and "window girls" in Amsterdam are probably the worst in service and highest in price, all locals would tell you to avoid, and seek illegal alternatives. So, yes, in both Amsterdam and Nevada, illegal prostitution still exists and the situation for unlicensed prostitutes are even worse than prostitutes in Toronto because they will not report violence to police and so on. At least here in Toronto, a prostitute is not afraid to report crimes to police, she will not get a hefty fine for not having "prostitution license" or go to jail for what she does.
I actually think the way Canada handles prostitution is pretty good. We don't criminalize it - so police can protect them, but at same time, we don't regulate it by giving out brothel licenses - so obscene red light districts like the one in Amsterdam won't appear, but it allows free market of agencies and independents to thrive behind the veil.

How long will this semi-happy state last? We are always at the mercy and whim of "THE MAN".

They are all the MAN, you silly silly person.
The left don't like it because they they are man hating feminazi's, the right don't like it because they are fun hating fundies. Both sets determined to tell us how to live. Libertarians would leave us alone, but you would have a better chance of a presidential election being between zombie George Washington and zombie Abe Lincoln than a libertarian winning serious office.

How many on this board have really thought about the difference between legalization and decriminalization? Certainly what I support is complete decriminalization. It's nice that prostitution per se isn't illegal in Canada, and that the bawdy house laws are fairly consistently not enforced in Toronto, but it would be better if the bawdy house laws didn't exist.

The Montreal Scenario :

It took 5 years for the Montreal sex scene to be transforms into what it is today. Five or ten years ago, the sex Montreal was pretty much what it is now in the GTA. Today there is an over abundance of massage parlors ( some offering full service sex ) and escort agencies, as well as many independents in both categories.
The LE in Montreal have re-focused their priorities and do not interfere with the massage and sex trade as long as it is out of sight indoors and do not involve drugs, under aged participants or unwilling participants. The street scene once upon a time was a mixture of full and part time sex workers, occasional welfare mothers, under aged girls, and drug users is no more. Years ago, the cop on the street was not allowed / encouraged to interfere / stop a street sex worker for prostitution because this was the job of old fat sergeant detectives of the morality squad. The fat fucks reserved this job for themselves and did round ups only 3 or 4 times a year on the street to show that they were doing their jobs. The rest of the time they sat and drank coffee till they got their fat retirement pensions after 30 years of service. Today, it is difficult to find a SW on the streets of Montreal. There are less opportunities for the drug users to finance their habits, or under aged girls to make extra cash.

Yes, decriminalization seems the way to go. Bawdy House laws date back to Victorian times when every fourth house in London was a brothel. This isn't a figure I just made up either. In order to control this activity in London the so-called Bawdy House laws were put into effect. So, they're a throwback to Victorian times and they should be scrapped. We should have laws against pimping and underage prostitution, and that's about it, leave freelancers and agenices alone to ply their trade, as long as they're not hiring under eighteens, illegal immigrants or trafficked women who are working against their will. Although again, the whole human trafficking thing has been blown way out of proportion by the sensationalist press and the Conservatives who use it for their own ideological ends.

And prices have declined and safety of both providers and clients have increased.
because this was the job of old fat sergeant detectives of the morality squad.
Real cops don't join the morality squad.
