pushback from auto manufacturers will likely be insane. If I ever saw a good reason to stop leasing and keep the old car this is it.

So last year, there were some big donations to political campaigns.

Follow the money.

By then most vehicles will be self driving cars and all you need to do is sit in the back seat as a passenger.

So in 2027 you will still be driving what, 2015 or 2016 maybe? Hope you have a really good mechanic....
A 10 year old car by today's standards is quite reliable.
There are 20 year old cars on our roads, and the body will rust out to shit before the engine / transmission will give up on many cars

Built in monitoring system is unnecessary.
If a person is convicted of a DUI then they should have the system installed for life.

We've had decades to police ourselves and we failed as a society. Now the choice will no longer be ours. I'm actually surprised it has taken so long to come to this conclusion. I'm ok with this as long as the technology works. I don't drink and drive, so no big deal for me. Too many have been senselessly murdered.

I don't drink and drive either.
Why should I be penalized?

Insurance Statistics show way more accidents In Brampton, which indicates more dangerous driving in that area. Should we just make it so no one from Brampton should be allowed to drive?
Just because we are failing to police License testing properly?

No, but you could argue insurance rates should be higher. Which they are in Brampton.

Yeah they can put all that gear in place and lock things down but come on... it didn't work for John Deere did it? Hacking groups got involved and now you pay a few thousand so you can unlock your tractor and do you're own repairs. This DUI tech will be the same. Pay someone to bypass it etc...

Yes. It would be a good start.

Your "good reason" to stop leasing and stick with an old car is because newer cars won't let you drive drunk? 🤔
because blowing into that thing is annoying as fuck

You didn't read the article, clearly.
sorry, you're right. Well the technology described is way ahead of what he have today... if it's easy I personally would be okay with it as I don't drive drunk.

And, how will this prevent someone else from starting the car, and then switching drivers once the car is running.

So, once again, the habitual Drunk drivers will easily find a way around this, and the only people left holding the bag and having to deal with this stupid thing are the honest drivers who don't drink and drive anyway.

But that is what we always do in this country. Instead of actually properly enforcing the laws we currently have, we make more and more redundant laws, that end up penalizing those who follow the laws anyway.

Mother is waking up her 5 yo son at 2am:
Johnny, wake up! Uncle Joe is leaving so you need to start his car!

Back in my clubbing days, after the clubs closed, and we all went back to pile into the designated drivers car at the lot, we once saw some dude, who paid a homeless guy to blow into the Breath locking device he had installed in his car. So he must have been an already convicted drunk driver.
It happens more than you think.
