I remember there were discussions here in the past about the surge in Iraq, whether or not it worked. Clearly violence went down.

But in the news recently were two stories casting doubt on whether the surge was really responsible for this or not.

So, is anyone revising their previous opinions on the matter?
The public has received nothing but spin the whole way through. Although that is likely the case with most presidential administrations, especially during times of conflict or war, Bush and Cheney have been more devious, more secretive....and ultimately and likely the most incompetent team to hold that branch.

No doubt they have had good reason to lie - I mean spin - their story. They wanted to throw the enemy off track, or it was in the interest of national security, or they didn't want to panic the public, or they wanted to save face, or they have personal vested interests in the outcome. But in the end, the truth was meaningless.
