It looked interesting in the ninth for a second. 2 weird outs to start with a mound comebacker deflecting off the pitcher, and with Pudge grounding out with a check swing, but with 2 men on, the Cards held on.

I guess the layoff put to rest any energy the Tigers had out of the ALCS.

Wow I gotta laugh I didn't even know the series was on TV much less possibly going to end.

Is it true that the Cards are one of the worst teams (in terms of W-L record) to win a World Series?

Only 83 wins.

The Jays were 10 games back with 87 wins THIS YEAR!

the worst ever...only 83 wins in the reg season....but only the playoffs count once you are in..and the Cards slayed some big dragons on their way to the top...

No I'm not trying to discredit the Cards because you're right once in the play offs you have to beat the top teams and some big payrolls. It just makes the accomplishment that much more intersting. I guess..... just struggling to find a story to make the WS interesting for me. :D

Slayed???? I'd say the Tigers rolled over and played dead. This year was a tale of two Tiger teams. The first half was the one that was the best team in MLB. The second half was the one that sputtered to the playoffs. Unfornately, the second team played the Series. Plain and simple choke. Sigh.

Well for a long stretch the Tigers were one of the worst teams good to see they've turned that around at least.

Guess the big question now is which teams can stick together and what off season moves will happen.

The Tigers had no life in them at all.

It is still enjoyable to see the teams with major funding behind them go down ...like the Yankees, the Tigers, the Red Wings, The Maple Laffs. No I am not saying that the Laffs are the same quality teams as the others...the others truly do try to buy a championship...the Laffs just like to pick the pockets of the Sheeple who constantly support them.

From a fundamentals of baseball viewpoint, this was one of the worst Fall Classic ever. That being said, JP Ricciardi isn't looking too good - he had infinite patience for Eric Hinske and none for Chris Carpenter. Ouch!!!

What 2006 World Series should tell us is that a world series champions is sometimes not about the best team winning but a team being hot at the right time.. I bet if you ask Tony La Russa who has won many division tiltes and
has been in post season play if this is his best team and I bet he would say
no ... Its just a team of dynastny. Its about players who become World Series heros when nothing about their stats tell you it would happen .. Hey remember all those Blue Jay stars and it was Pat Borders with the big bat ..

Also I guess that is why Baseball has the purest form of Champion ie it only lets 8 teams into
postseason .. You see if it was 16 teams you would have maybe a sub 500 team with two hot
pitchers winning the World Series and team X who won 97 games would be watching it at home.
well said GuyRoch, get hot at the right time is what its about.Prev. Cards teams had far better reg. season wins but this one got it done.I met some Cards' fans at Wrigley. It was nice to see the back&forth 'tween them&Cubs' supporters, lots of friendly "trash" but nothing anywhere near trouble.Call it "midwest chill" I guess.
Also, St.Loo was helped by some very shoddy defence by Det. esp. the pitchers, like Leyland said, give those guys a chance&you'll pay.

.....they certainly didn't bring their "a" game for most of the series....but still quite an accomplishment being 3 yrs removed from 119 games..and get to the big dance. A lot of young good players on the Tigers...especially pitching..bodes well for the future..

Buying a winner sailor?? the Tigers???.....the payroll on the Tigers is no where near the top of the league..in fact ifd I recall, it is somewhere in the neighbourhood of the Blue Jays...90 mil or so??....hardly buying your way to the top in MLB with that payroll...

The Birds are flying high. I cant believe all th sports pundits are still trashing them. Them idiots ought to know that the redbirds only had their starting 9 the first 2 months of the season. They finnally all got togather for the playoffs and then they looked like theywere supposed to. I dont give a rats ass about 83 wins they are world champs. Now if Da Bears can win the super bowl it will be a great year for me.
