"Seventy thousand Canadian workers lost their jobs and every one is wondering why Stephen Harper shot down Parliament instead of providing a real plan to Canadians," Brison said.

Which propaganda campaign will win:

-- lies about the Bloc having a "veto" over Canada
-- criticism of the government for doing nothing in a crisis

Only time will tell--the next fifty two days to be precise.

So far the public seems to be supporting the Government.

Which is what they wanted to do from the election on when Harper said he'd work with everyone. What I'm now hearing a lot more of is, "What was Harper thinking? Was he deranged or just dumb, to make such a mess in such a short time?"

My bet for the 24 Sussex Songbook is "Happy Days are Here Again and A Chicken in Every Pot", "Pennies from Heaven To Buy Every Vote I can"

The Conservatives were smart to wait until the US plan for the big three was put forward. Looks like it is ~15 Bn. That would mean out part would be about 1.5-2 Bn! I would what Jumpin Jack and The Non Democratic Liberal Party was going to do with the other 38 bn in promises!

No matter how you slice it, filling potholes in TO will not help an unemployed worker in Windsor!

Come January 27th, it won't be the public that will vote Happer & CO out of the House, It is the coalition for the times at hand. Bilderburger poster boy Harper is toast from within and without! Unless off course, you want him to stay in power till next spring where he will be on a handout spree to his buddies on Bay street!

I'd say both sides contributed equally.

The interesting thing was that it wasn't the lost jobs or the economy that caused the coalition to be formed it was the potential loss of their $1.95 per vote allowance. Just shows you where their heads are really at.

Fortunately the public seems to be appreciating this more than terb members.

Bobby Rae has cooked his goose by supporting the coalition while Iggy has been largely silent. Iggy's popularity has risen significantly as a result and he now has a commanding lead. Iggy may be a jerk but he's a smart jerk - kinda like Harper I guess.

17 billion. They raised it by 2. However, the Republicans might block it all together. There are 49 seats in the Senate and it will be their last power punch against Detroit. Not as if I'm against those three arrogant CEO's and their pig management team getting one single dime for making those SUV's and selling the patent of the electric car to Exxon/Mobile (now what can Exxon do with the motor of an electric car....make it use their oil and gas.....AH! The Hybrid, use gas and electricity, not allow only electricity....what a novel idea. ARGH!).

The song will be more like:

Jack and Gilles went up the hill,
to fetch a pail of power...

you know the rest.

Protecting the long-term interests of their constituents by making sure they'd be adequately funded to do that going forward?

Again... party funding goes to things like advertising and research, not to individual MP's pockets. It was a pure power grab by the Conservatives to try and change campaign finance rules in a way that specifically advantages the Conservative party.

It also appeared NOWHERE in the Conservatives election campaign material.

Yup. Considering Harper needed opposition support from Day 1 of the session, he was dead stupid to threaten their very survival. None of them (and none of us) want an election. Three rats cornered will beat the one rat who chased them there any way they can, even if it makes them look desperate and foolish.

Most other Canadians would rather have Dion, Layton, Duceppe or May than Harper. Election results have said so over and over. Eventually Conservatives will figure out, like Stockwell his day's done. Time to get a real leader who can actually get majorities.

And he still needs more than a dozen opposition votes to even get his Speech from the Throne passed.

The fat ladie,s not even warming up.

Did you whine when the Liberals implemented the scheme when they had a decisively larger number of seats and therefore $$$?

And it was in a previous platform and the Conservatives voted against public funding when it was first introduced by the Liberals.

Time will tell if he was sage or a fool. To say that most other Canadians would rather have someone else is NUTS. I would say that Harper has the largest support among any individual leader on the national scene at this time...and the poles (all of them) back up that belief.

And as one Conservative, I would put forward that Harper has increased his parties standing in every election. The way the Liberals are acting, a majority for the Conservatives is in the offing.

I know when you live in the bubble that is Toronto it may seem that the Liberals have some strength...but it is waning fast...they are basically a party confined to two small areas in Canada (Montreal and Toronto)!

I think it is the correct way to fund political parties. The alternative is to have them funded by special interests, which I happen to think is wrong.

I do not think the tories were significantly disadvantaged by the funding, no.

And it was in a previous platform and the Conservatives voted against public funding when it was first introduced by the Liberals.
All kinds of looney things were in previous Conservative platforms--Canadians had thought the Conservatives had moved on from that stuff and were ready to be a government for all Canadians.
