The head of the University at Albany’s Center for Sexual Assault, Carol Stenger, is unhappy with the low number of sexual assaults being reported at the school.
Yes, you read that right.
In the past year, 28 people at UAlbany filed reports of sexual assault — nine from people who asked the school not to take action. We’d still call that 28 too many — especially since it’s doubled in the two years since Stenger’s center opened.
But the problem for Stenger is that’s way too low to confirm that “one in five women on campus are assaulted” statistic that folks like Stenger love to cite.
Of course, that stat’s utterly bogus — but to the campus-sex-assault truthers, it means UAlbany should be seeing around perhaps hundreds of cases reported each year.
After all, Stenger noted, sexual assault and rape are “happening everywhere.”
Of course, if they’re actually not “everywhere” in the way the ideologues claim, then Stenger could be out of a job. And since her “expertise” (according to the school’s Web site) includes “European approaches to sex education” and “Internet pornography,” finding another one might be tough.
