Being an avid skier, I was really disappointed in myself this year in letting life's business get in the way. However, I went today to Collingwood, and was a bit surprised to firnd perfect conditions, especially given the recent warmth and rain. No lack of snow whatsoever, and the runs were in as good shape as they have ever been.

Just do not have time to go further afield this year.

But just in case you are wondering, (I was not expecting much), I was pleasantly surprised.

BTW... I just love that south lift where everyone throws bras and panties into the tree branches.

I've watched the weather network ski reports and have to wonder sometimes if certain places aren't actually overstating how good conditions are/ runs open.

I have a friend who owns a ski shop in Hamilton and he has always said that the worst thing that happens to his business is to have crap weather here (Southern Ontario) simply because people assume that the conditions suck everywhere... Which is rarely the case. I have 15 days in so far, in Whistler, Collingwood, Quebec and Vermont. I wouldn't call the eastern skiing "epic" but certainly it's been very nice. And driving to the hill/mountain has been easy with the lack of real weather in these parts!

Frankly, I was surprised.... was geared for the worst, and it ended up being great conditions.

Here is what you are looking at this week. Ground snow does not appear till you are past Barrie. Collingwood slopes- 100 per cent snow coverage, no bare spots, and they are blowing snow (pardon the expression).

Went up Thurs and it was warm, so the snow was not mushy... hard pack base but very loose snow on top made it a bit of work. As temps dipped that night, it got better and better and surface was harder and faster.

One note of caution, the new snow guns can make snow in much warmer temps. A girl in front of me and I skied through some fresh snow under a gun when the weather was warm in afternoon. It was just like skiing into mud, you skis immediately stop and the bindings throw you into the air like superman. The nice young lady helped me out. Sort of faked I was dying.

Bottom line: for the weather we have had, I am amazed at conditions.

Anyone ever try any of those end of year puddle jumps? I did once... will tell next time.

Superbowl Sunday..... Hard base 100 per cent cover.... a bit moguly, loose and ungroomed on top. Was Ok though, doing some moguly stuff, then harder / faster as night went on. Kept popping into Bar for Superbowl and met a couple of nice ladies who were so drunk they couldn't stand up. A bit of everything, I suppose.
