That's odds on making it to the big leagues. I wonder what the odds are of becoming the elite (talking HOF material) of the sport.

I have been coaching youth soccer for 9 years now. In a big association north of Montreal.
For the 9-14 year old range we currently have 1 prospect (out of maybe 4000 players). We are not talking about MLS level but really top league like Alphonso, David, Millar, Koné, Bombito...
My son had played for a private academy 3 years ago led by a former Barca player. By his contact we were able to send that 14 year old in Madrid last year in a top academy. So far he is making the cut and his a starter.
Then there is some players that are late bloomer. At 9 they play on second team then all of a sudden at 16-17 they are promoted to 3A top league. I have help a few do that. It`s a wonderful feeling. Seeing their dad or mom looking at you and saying I was a pivotal factor. That makes me so proud with all the hours I put voluntary.
So many kids do not make it not because they lack talent but because they lack discipline.
