Certainly is a pandemic amongst politicians

The simple reason may be that for the last thousands of years since societies cared for people, weak vision is no longer a selection pressure. Or it could be that access to eye testing has identified people who in the past wouldn't have even bothered getting their eyes tested. I severely doubt that screens have much to do with it.
