Of course...
She was on the STREET.
No disrespect to women who must or chose to work that way, but to have a women that lovely, charming, bright etc etc on the street is a hell of a long shot (though things have changed since when the movie was made).
Even the very best of SPs will admit that the job is HARD work, being on the street is brutal, and especially dangerous in the USA.
On the other hand, though I have never been as rich as Gere in the movie, without a doubt I would marry several of the SPs I have met on line in the last few years. No question they are as good, or better, than my two ex-wives

Have to admit have never seen a street walker whom looks as good as Julia Roberts.
There are plenty off on-line indies and agency ladies though who are just as good looking if not even better.
(No offense to Julia as I do think she is drop dead gorgeous.)
