At the beginning, i was for raps keeping james, but as the end of season inched closer, you hear more and more about him and his contract and how much he should be earning. I also noticed a little change in his game. I totally agree with this article 100%. I liked mike james before all the contrac/FA talk. Unless hes gonna be the mike james before all this FA talk, then i dont think he should be resigned by the raptors, definitely not a big long term contract. Maybe a sign and trade. But that also depends on what other FA PGs are out there. I dont think we should just give him up for nothing.

OMG.... 6+million for a "tweener"??? for a guy that is neither a PG or a SG??? for a guy that started to believe that he was MJ by the end of the season???

I am happy for James... he has worked hard to stay in the league and prove that he belongs, and now he will cash in on that.... but I do not see him as a fit for the Raps going forward...

Keep James to keep Bosh happy.

James proved he can score, maybe he'll learn to pass once in a while.

To protect their investment in Bosh they should show him enough respect to go with his wishes and sign James. I'm not saying Bosh is a baby like Vince was with the Dr. J thing, but superstar players should be coddled, especially at the beginning of a contract.

Also speaking of Vince, would it be so bad to keep character guys like James around when the league really is full of babies and delinquents?

I wouldn't offer him more than that. If he wants too much, he'd be a good fit with a team like Charlotte, which has a good young nucleus and cap room.

Any top six team in either conference already has somebody as good or better at both the 1 and 2, and probably only has the mid level exempion for free agents.

It depends a lot on where the Raptors draft, and what they do with their pick. If they could add a rebounder and a point guard, James would be redundant. Joey Graham could be moved to the two, and back up Peterson. The fact that James has moved around so much in his career is either an indication that teams are eager to acquire him, or that he overvalues himself.

Overpaying for talent just becuase you have cap room is what got the Raptors into trouble in the first place. I dates back to the six year, $24 Million they gave to Yogi Stewart, who begat Lamond Murray. (who also cost the Raps a first rounder in 2008), Eric Montross, Hakeem, etc. The cap room tied up in Alvin Williams' contract has hurt a lot, as well. Finding a taker for Jalen Rose was a major turn in the right direction. Better to have that money down the line to pay Charlie V than to have James tied up longer or for more bucks.

our draft pick could be lookin at a J.J. Reddick or an Adam Morrision as a scorer at Shooting Guard...But this will bring up a whole new dilemna of needing a new passer(james can't pass for shit anyway)

M James is expendable his best asset is his scoring but the team needs play making and unselfishness at the PG position.

In general the team need better rebounding and defense.

So to me this MJ doesn't have much to offer the team. As for keeping Bosh happy I don't think he'll be too upset so long as moves are made to improve the team as a whole. I doubt CB feels that strongly about james in particular.

I cant believe people see this guy as a long term option!! He may appear good to some... but consider the team he's playing on!! Lamond Murray led Cleveland in scoring the year prior to joining the Raptors. He looked great at the time too... but consider the crappy situation he was coming from.

I hope (and doubt) that Colangelo will make this into another AD/JYD/Olajuwon situation. .....

The Raptors can get a better pro prospect than Reddick where they draft, and I'd rather see Morrison cry on a different coloured uniform, thank you very much.

Personally, I'd rather much see them land a good veteran FA than thru draft pick. Rapts already is pretty young. I think the best move for the raps to get in to playoff is a good vet. But wouldnt mind see a good rookie Center who can help big time right away.
You get solid C, bosh at pf, charlie, at sf,graham sg/sf, maybe calderon at starting pg in couple years, that would be a pretty good lineup

Few problems.... not a lot of good centres available in the draft or NBA... Graham did not really prove much last year, and there are some great SG/SF coming up in the draft.

Perhaps we can get a shot at landing Alonzo Mourning

I think we need to get a PG out of this draft...

Graham or Caleron are not good enough to start as is...

Put Mo Pete at SG, Charlie V at SF, Bosh at PF, Calderon is a decen t PG he's not gonna blow any games starting. Bring in a veteran centre who can start right away and pull down 12+ rebounds a game. You've got Graham coming off the bench for quality minutes. What's the deal with Alvin Williams? Is he officially done or will he be ready come October? If he's available and healthy, Calderon / Healthy Williams at the point is nothing to complain about.

Mike James isn't gonna have the season he had this year in Houston. First of all, T-Mac is the man there. No way James will be allowed to take half the shots he saw in T.O. With a team where you've got Yao and T-Mac, not to mention Swift, the Rockets need a pass first point guard not Mike James.

Swift sucks...

T-Mac is a ball hog(rightfully so sometimes)...Yao is the best player in Houston by a ton...

Toronto needs to sign a PG(someone like a boby jackson) who is a vet and can start...Too bad we missed out on Cassel and Mobley last year... :(

Also, a center is needed from somewhere desparately who can rebound and block shots...
