Kara Hayward has graduated from high-school, in accordance with her parents wishes, and already the film offers are pouring in. I mention this since she played a large part in one of the best films of this decade - Moonrise Kingdom. Part of a discussion concerning the best films of this decade on another board, so I posted my picks.

1. Inception
2. Moonrise Kingdom
3. Whiplash
4. Winter's Bone
5. 50/50
6. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
7. Silver Linings Playbook
8. Rust and Bone
9. Calvary
10. The Dark Knight Rises

Kara played Suzy Bishop, she owned Moonrise Kingdom. She was 12 when the film was shot, this is what she looks like now:

I can't remember who won Best Actor at the Oscars last winter. IMHO the best performances were given by JK Simmons (Whiplash) and Brendan Gleeson (Calvary), I can't decide which one is superior.

Moonrise Kingdom over The Grand Budapest Hotel? I will have to disagree, Moonrise was a cute film but you really get to see the elaborate genius in Grand Budapest, also 50/50 and Rust & Bone are vastly underrated.

Budapest is a grandiose, much within it to admire but Moonrise is a film I genuinely love. And it's the announcement of a major new talent. 50/50 is a very ballsy film, you have to respect Seth Rogen for getting it made. Cancer is a frightening topic looked at with honesty and humour. Four those of us who have too much experience with the dreaded scurge, Rogen deserves gratitude.

So far for me, this one. Maybe I'm getting too sentimental in my older years. But this movie was outstanding !!!

This decade its hard to compare movies from 2000-2010. To many on that list.
Inception was mind blowing and The Dark Knight Rises was superhero cool would be my picks.

Cloud Atlas
I'm not a fan of the Wachoski Bros, I passed on that film. I could have expanded the list to 15, there are five other films that deserved to be watched:

Ex Machina
Rush
Prisoners
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Mad Max: Fury Road

Now some of you may be wondering: why not Django Unchained? Tarantino is getting too repetitive with his revenge motif, that five films and counting. It worked for Inglorious Basterds, everyone loves watching Nazi's get slaughtered. Django Unchained made me feel dirty watching it, Tarantino is too self-indulgent to delve into the atrocity of slavery. The film had it's moments but was nothing more than an ultra violent blaxploitation film. I took a long shower when I got home from the theater.

I also thought this movie sounded kinda lame and didn't really want to watch it until it came on Netflix and there was nothing else to watch. I was so wrong and this movie is deep and has so many different layers, and you can watch it many times over and get something else. I thought their Jupiter Ascending was one of the worst movies I watched this decade. Seeing your titles and likes chances are good you might like this one as well.

Halle Berry is in Cloud Atlas right? She's comely but not a good actress. She's like Angelina Jolie, they're not intuitive actors, they rely on melodrama to compensate for their lack of perspective. In their entire careers they have nothing to match what Jessica Chastain delivers in the first 5 minutes of The Tree of Life. And after that film, I'm not ready for another planet encompassing film.

Cloud Atlas
Prisoners
+ 1

Cloud Atlas definitely is not a flick for everyone. I had to reverse back a few times to pick up on things I missed, glad I didn't watch that at the cine. Fore sure will rewatch it.

A few flicks I really enjoyed this decade so far:

Blue Ruin
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2359024/?ref_=nv_sr_1
you know it's not gonna end good...

The Rover
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2345737/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Guy Pearce's just intense, R Pattinson's fine. A whacky one.

Nebraska
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1821549/?ref_=nv_sr_1
the setting can be depressing but I find the story quite ... adorable.
Watching Will Forte reminded me of Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
It took a while to get used to seeing him act with a straight face .

Nightcrawler
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2872718/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2

Don Jon
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2229499/?ref_=nv_sr_1
LooooL

Main stream ones:

Birdman
The Descendants
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Dallas Buyers Club
Gone Girl
Ender's Game
Guardians of the Galaxy

The last 3 Tommy Cruise flicks weren't that bad.

I did like Inception quite a bit though. The plot was complex and to jam all that in was really quite masterful
I thought cramming all that in was a little sickening.

I liked Boyhood better.

Certainly did like Money Ball.

I haven't seen GBH yet, and some of the movies that IV listed, I'm not aware of.

I bought a cheap DVD of Birdman which I'll watch maybe up at the cottage this weekend.

I can't remember Prisoners but think I saw that one.

Sheesh my memory now.

Don Jon was very entertaining.

How can we not include The Imitation Game?

These are a few films I've really liked a lot since 2010:

The Descendants - George Clooney
Silver Linings Playbook
12 Years a Slave
Dallas Buyers Club, great ensemble cast
Zero Dark Thirty - great performance by Jessica Chastain, one of the best war films ever
Lincoln - Spielberg flick
Flight - Denzel Washington hits it out of the park
Birdman - My Favorite movie of this decade so far
The Grand Budapest Hotel - favourite Wes Anderson film
The Imitation Game
Mud - Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon - love the feel/ atmosphere / mood of film
American Hustle - from the director of Silver Linings Playbook
Ant Man - probably just on this list because I saw it last week; but, it's my favorite Marvel film so far
John Wick - okay sometimes just like a well done violent film
Ex Machina
Prometheus - Ridley Scott mindbender
Foxcatcher - brilliant period piece based on a true story. My second favorite movie this decade
A Most Violent Year - set in Brooklyn in 1981, hits all the right notes
The Water Diviner
Cloud Atlas
Interstellar - Matthew Mc Conaughey has had a great decade. Living up to all the hype he had at start of his career - in 3 movies on this list.

I've got to check out Calvary. Never heard of it till reading this post.

Yes, Lincoln and SLP. I even liked The Butler.

Yes, I've got to check out Cavalry and watch some of the DVDs I have of some of these great movies that I haven't watched that were mentioned here.

My friend didn't like Whiplash as he's a musician and teacher, and that that style was bullshit, but I like J.K. Simmons.
