I was recently reading about Ronald Regan's assassination attempt by John Hinckley Jr. in 1981:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDIVheB5kIM

and discovered that George Bush Senior, who was Director of the CIA 1976-1977, was running against Regan in the 1980 presidential election, losing to him, and then became Vice President of the United States Jan 20, 1981, when Regan took office:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_H._W._Bush

Two months into Regan's presidency (remember that George Bush senior, former CIA head, was running against him and lost), on March 30th, 1981, Regan was shot by John Hinckley Jr. in a failed assassination attempt.

Now here's the interesting part:

John Hinkley Jr's father, John Hinckley Sr., was the chairman of Vanderbilt Energy Corp. which was one of George Bush Sr.'s largest financial contributors in the 1980 Presidential campaign. Further, the Vice chairman of Vanderbilt, Jonh Hinckley Jr.'s brother Scott Hinckley, was scheduled to have dinner with George Bush's son, Neil Bush, the day after the attempt was made, but scheduled before the assassination attempt:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reagan_assassination_attempt

Hinckley family connections (excerpt from the link above)

John Hinckley Jr. is the son of John Hinckley Sr., chairman of the oil company Vanderbilt Energy Corp., one of Vice President George H.W. Bush's larger political and financial supporters in his 1980 presidential primary campaign against Ronald Reagan. Also, John Hinckley Jr.'s older brother, Vanderbilt vice president Scott Hinckley, and the Vice President's son Neil Bush, had a dinner appointment scheduled for the next day.[25]
The Associated Press published the following short note on March 31, 1981:

"The family of the man charged with trying to assassinate President Reagan is acquainted with the family of Vice President George Bush and had made large contributions to his political campaign....Scott Hinckley, brother of John W. Hinckley Jr. who allegedly shot at Reagan, was to have dined tonight in Denver at the home of Neil Bush, one of the Vice President's sons....The Houston Post said it was unable to reach Scott Hinckley, vice president of his father's Denver-based firm, Vanderbilt Energy Corp., for comment. Neil Bush lives in Denver, where he works for Standard Oil Co. of Indiana. In 1978, Neil Bush served as campaign manager for his brother, George W. Bush, the Vice President's eldest son, who made an unsuccessful bid for Congress. Neil lived in Lubbock, Texas, throughout much of 1978, where John Hinckley lived from 1974 through 1980."

Apparently, John Hinckley Jr's reason for the attempt to assassinate Regan, was to impress actress Jodi Foster, by acting out a plot in the movie Taxi Driver. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity. A kind of neat and tidy clean up to it all.

This doesn't sound like coincidence to me.

Further, from 1983-1989, former CIA operative Manuel Noreiga, who was also the President of Panama, was removed from Panama when he rebelled against the CIA, in favor of protecting Panama's interests by going rogue:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Noriega

George Bush, who knew Manuel Noreiga was on the CIA payroll, invaded Panama to remove and incarcerate him for undermining US interests of the Panama Canal, a key trade route that was to be handed back over to Panama under the "Torrijos-Carter Treaty" in the year 2000. In 1977, when Bush was Director of CIA and Jimmy Carter was President, the treaty was signed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torrijos–Carter_Treaties

Guess who ordered the invasion? George Bush. The reason? To protect the canal, because Noriega went rogue, and his Presidency (installed by the US) threatened the stability of the Canal for trading:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_invasion_of_Panama

The Panama Canal is an important trade route, because it connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, allowing North American trade with the world (i.e. ships from Japan can pass through to Africa and African ships can travel to Japan, and trade can occur with all the major continents. Whomever controls this canal, controls the most direct trading route for the world.)

So, the CIA employed and installed Manuel Noreiga, who provided weapons and money to American backed guerillas in order to overthrow an internal conflict (probably established by the CIA in the first place to undermine and destabilize the country), and allowed America to profit from this war by securing the Canal for US interests by Maneul Noriega. Only Noriega went rogue, and the US plans failed, until George Bush invaded the small country, and overthew the installed President, and incarcerated him.

Meanwhile in Iraq, from 1980-1988, Saddamm Hussein was President, and the US, when Regan and Bush were in power, publicly supported Saddam Hussein and former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld shakes hands with Saddam Hussein, meeting with him in 1983 to secure a new oil pipeline:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaP7ZrmkcuU

However, simultaneously, the Regan/Bush administration secretly provided weapons and funding to Iran to undermine Iraq's efforts with the war, destabilizing the region:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran–Contra_affair

with proceeds of the arms sales going to fund Nicaraguan guerillas.

This must have pissed off Saddam Hussein, as the US was secretly helping Iran, yet publicly supporting him, for the new oil pipeline.

When the relationship between Saddam Hussein and Bush fell through because of the Iran-Contra Affair, the US went to war with Iraq under the Bush administration. Saddam Hussein remained in power

Later, under George Bush Jr's rule, the US would implicate Iraq with the 911 attacks, and condemn them for having weapons of mass destruction (of course, the US was charging them with possession of weapon's of mass destruction while having the largest nuclear arsenal in the world, and stockpiles of biological and chemical weapons):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYI7JXGqd0o

Defense Secretary Rumsfeld would later resign in 2006,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Rumsfeld#Resignation

but not before Secretary of State Colin Powell

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Powell

(who was the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of staff, the highest ranking position in the military, and part of the invasion of Panama and Iraq war I under George Bush Sr.), decided to resign in 2004, both under George Bush Jr's administration.

Then of course the US captures Saddam Hussein, finding him buried underground in Iraq, and is tried not for possessing weapons of mass destruction, or being involved in 911, but for the killing of 148 people the US and it's allies labeled as "genocide" and "crimes against humanity". This would be later criticize by Amnesty International for being "deeply flawed and unfair"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trial_of_Saddam_Hussein
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam_Hussein

And of course, let's not forget about Osama Bin Laden, who was backed by the US during the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan, and whom was provided weapons and training by the CIA in the 80's:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Invasion_of_Afghanistan

and whose family was a business partner of George Bush Jr's oil company before he was President (see Michale Moore's movie Fahrenheit 911 for more on this), who were the only ones who were allowed air travel out of the US the days following 911.

And Bush wanted him killed. They can find Saddam Hussein buried underground in Iraq, but can't find this guy.

What this all comes down to is that the US supported all these leaders in the past, specifically the Bush family, and later had them incarcerated and/or killed when their business interests fell through (i.e. the ownership of the panama canal, the oil pipeline in Iraq, and undermining the Soviets in Afghanistan.).

This is what is fully disclosed and what we know about the Bush family. What we don't know scares me much more. I have no doubt the Bush family tried to have Regan killed, used national resources for personal gain, and put a lot of soldiers and their families in harm's way for that end.

Just a thought. But a scary one indeed. The Bush family has been involved in shaping the most important political events (save for the fall of the Berlin Wall) within the last 30 years, both in office and within their personal relationships.

Don't forget that the granddaddy of the Bush's - Prescott Bush was a supporter of the American Liberty League that attempted to over throw FDR in the 30's with a facist government because they didn't like the idea of his socialist policies of taking care of those that were destitute during the depression.

How come no one noticed a creepy guy hanging around outside the hotel?

Another interesting fact: the brand new CNN had been covering Reagan's speech inside.

Let me see if I understand this:

George Bush Sr. is vice president and likely next in line to be president but he can’t wait that long so he decided to knock off his running mate and friend, Ronald Regan so he puts someone he knows up to it. He puts his biggest financial contributor’s son who is crazy and has an obsession with Jodie Foster.

John Hinkley Jr. and Sr. are both fine with the arrangement. They have no other incentive to do this crazy and amateurish attempted assassination other than to try to impress Jodie Foster. Hinkley is found to be innocent due to insanity but he has to spend the next 15 years in a mental institute full of crazy lunatics. Doesn’t sound like getting away with it.

The only “evidence” that there is to support this conspiracy is the fact that Hinkley and Bush were acquainted with each other?

Yeah, right….

Everything you state is fact aside from the Bush/Hinckley conspiracy to assassinate Reagan. It sounds like you've just had an epiphany: The CIA, since it's inception, has been surreptitiously used as a tool for USA's political and business elite to further their interests around the world at the expense of (others') blood and treasure. I'm glad you're passing on what you're learning - this is something that should be taught in high school history.

I suggest you read some Chomsky. Start with his latest "Failed States", to truly understand the hypocritical depth the US is capable of under all presidential administrations.

Thanks for that, and for everyone else's posts on this, whether you agree with my point of view or not. I could go on about Bush but I don' think I have much more to say, other than I despise the way that family has manipulated things for their own financial benefit, while putting millions of innocent lives in the crossfire, destroying families and communities on both sides of the hemispehere. I cannot think of any other dictatatorship that comes close.

I am a big fan of Chomsky, in recent years in particular, though I don't necessarily agree with everything he says. What I like about him is his ability to analyze complex issues and spell them out in a plain and unambiguous manner. His bluntness on issues of foreign and domestic policy, is refreshing.

Another interesting fact of the CIA is their historical association with Canada. The classified psychological experiments that were undertaken by McGill University, which I'll save for another post. Then there was the flooding of African American communities with heroin in the 60's through to the 80's in order to destabilize them during the civil rights movement.

I don't know if anyone has seen the movie the Good Shepherd, with Matt Damon and Robert DeNiro, but one of the most fascinating historical moves made by the CIA was to broker the trade of Nazi Scientists immigrating to the US after World War II in return for their technology and military secrets. Apparently this was a necessary evil, because the Soviets were doing the same thing, and in order to maintain their competitive edge, and protect their interests for the future, this was necessary. Apparently, though this is probably best saved for another thread, NASA's rocket technology, and nuclear rocket technology was developed in part by Nazi scientists.

The very core of the US in the 20th century was predicated in part, upon the invited participation of the Nazis. Western countries (the US, Canada and the UK) shook hands with the devil, and I don't know if it was the right decision to make. Morality and ethics are luxuries for those on the sidelines of war to debate, and yet they define our values and what we cherish deeply at all levels of society. When we give those up, we threaten the very fabric of our society, and the reasons we live for.

Yeah, right….

The Bush family are part of the American historical fabric.
They belong in the Captain of Industries "club".

They've had their hands in the USA for decades (and the future).

I'll be honest, I don't see a problem with Russia. The women are extremely hot and in shape even in their 40's and very affectionate and sexy, and they've accomplished a lot as a society. They were the first to launch a satellite into space:

The first to send a man into space:

the first to develop and launch an orbiting space station:

and the first to launch an interplanetary probe:

Their culture is rich, language beautiful, and produce some of the best athletes in the world:

Just kidding =)

And have some of the most intelligent, educated, hard working, individuals I have ever met. And the women are dedicated to their children.

My ex-wife is a Great Russian, and I've traveled fairly extensively in Russia and Ukraine and I like the place. That doesn't change the fact that the Soviet State was reprehensible.
