Robert Musil is an obscure Austrian writer/lecturer from the first half of the 20th Century who may become the most influential thinker of the 21st Century.

His important lecture differentiated between dumbness and stupidity. Being dumb is a condition that almost can't be helped, being stupid is a great challenge. Only someone influenced by both Nietzsche and Kafka could understand the condition so well. His life became hard in a hurry, he went into exile in Switzerland after the Nazi Anschluss of his native Austria. He died in Geneva in 1942.

Oh, thought this thread might be about Rothko. Interesting though...

Rothko?

Musil lived an austere life, dying as the Nazis marched to Stalingrad. The big coincidence: within weeks of his death John Steinbeck published The Moon is Down.

The moral of the story: Stupidity's rewards are fleeting. Not least for the mass stupidity of the Germans.

There's talk of a fall Federal Election.

Lots of people believe Prime Minister Trudeau is stupid. How can he be, he's almost as big a grifter as Donato but he does it with more charm. Poor Erin O'Toole, if an election is called he's in a bad position. He tried to move the party to the mainstream but the McVety Faction gave him a big fagula. Canada is enriching itself with coal shipments to the PRC and India. A great issue for the Green Party to base their campaign on - excepts that they are too busy back biting - opportunity lost.

America drifting toward fascism doesn't help O'Toole but some of it he brought on himself...in his honeymoon days:
